ALONZO BODDEN

Baltimore Comedy Factory-Power Plant Live, 6 Market Place, Baltimore, MD
Monday, February 13, 2012, 8 – 10pm

Even before appearing on NBC'S 'Last Comic Standing', Alonzo Bodden knew there was nothing, absolutely nothing that would ever make him give up comedy. "That's the drug", he says "when they laugh it's like I'm a jazz musician and they hear it, and they get it. It's power to take the crowd wherever I want them to go. I love it when they laugh, especially when they relate through laughter. It's a beautiful thing. It also means I'm going to get paid, which is nice." Bodden didn't always make his living as a stand-up comic.

Showtimes:
Monday [02/13/2012]: 8:00 PM
Tuesday [02/14/2012]: 7:00 PM / 9:00 PM

Tickets: $20.00 / 410-547-7798

More info: www.baltimorecomedy.com

Baltimore Comedy Factory-Power Plant Live, 6 Market Place, Baltimore, MD
Tuesday, February 14, 2012, 7 – 11pm

Even before appearing on NBC'S 'Last Comic Standing', Alonzo Bodden knew there was nothing, absolutely nothing that would ever make him give up comedy. "That's the drug", he says "when they laugh it's like I'm a jazz musician and they hear it, and they get it. It's power to take the crowd wherever I want them to go. I love it when they laugh, especially when they relate through laughter. It's a beautiful thing. It also means I'm going to get paid, which is nice." Bodden didn't always make his living as a stand-up comic.

Showtimes:
Tuesday [02/14/2012]: 7:00 PM / 9:00 PM

Tickets: $20.00 / 410-547-7798

More info: www.baltimorecomedy.com

VALENTINE'S DAY WITH JASON WEEMS

DC Comedy Improv, 1140 Connecticut Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20036
Tuesday, February 14, 2012, 8pm

From "Last Comic Standing" and the Montreal "Just for Laughs Festival". Growing up in the 80's Jason Weems wanted to be the same thing as every other little boy: Hulk Hogan, Sunny Crockett and MacGyver. Around the age of 12, he realized these were all middle-aged white men who lived on the edge and it probably wouldn't work out for him. Ever since that moment, he has been trying to make people laugh to mask the pain.

A native of Baltimore City, Jason Weems is striving to become a comedic great. He's spent many years working with kindergarteners, which has left him with severe panic attacks and has shaped his humor in a very unique way. His very engaging & conversational style on stage leaves audiences feeling like they've just finished talking to a close friend, and it simultaneously acts as free therapy for him. "That's what he calls a Win-Win".

Tickets: $15.00 / (202) 296-7008

More info: www.dcimprov.com…

TOMMY DAVIDSON

Baltimore Comedy Factory-Power Plant Live, 6 Market Place, Baltimore, MD
Thursday, February 16, 2012, 8 – 10pm

Tommy Davidson's exceptional range from stand-up comedy and acting to versatile music ability have earned him a reputation as an extraordinary performer. Best known as one of the original stars of the hit television show In Living Color, Tommy's reach is built on the show's and its stars groundbreaking and innovative talent. Davidson started his career as a standup comedian in Washington DC, earning an ardent following via hard work in various comedy clubs. As one of the cutting-edge, young stand-ups, he was spotted by huge concert promoters, who booked him as the opening act for major touring acts including Patti LaBelle, Kenny G and Luther Vandross. It wasn't long before he came to Hollywood performing stand-up at a number of clubs, including the Comedy Act Theater, where he met Robert Townsend which led to his first national television appearance with a starring role in Partners in Crime. This was the conduit to Keenan Ivory Wayans, who proved instrumental in Davidson's career by offering him an opportunity to audition and join the uniquely talented cast of the most adventurous prime time variety show of its day, In Living Color.
GEORGE CLINTON & PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC

9:30 Club, 815 V Street, NW Washington, DC 20001
Friday, February 17, 2012, 7pm

"The mastermind of the Parliament/Funkadelic collective during the 1970s, George Clinton broke up both bands by 1981 and began recording solo albums, occasionally performing live with his former bandmates as the P.Funk All-Stars. Born in Kannapolis, NC, on July 22, 1940, Clinton became interested in doo wop while living in New Jersey during the early '50s. He formed the Parliaments in 1955, based out of a barbershop back room where he straightened hair. The group had a small R&B hit during 1967, but Clinton began to mastermind the Parliaments' activities two years later. Recording both as Parliament and Funkadelic, the group revolutionized R&B during the '70s, twisting soul music into funk by adding influences from several late-'60s acid heroes: Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and Sly Stone. The Parliament/Funkadelic machine ruled black music during the '70s, capturing over 40 R&B hit singles (including three number ones) and recording three platinum album.

Tickets: $45.00 / 202-265-0930

More info: www.930.com…

BETTYE LAVETTE LIVE

Weinberg Center for the Arts, 20 West Patrick Street, Frederick, MD
Saturday, February 18, 2012, 8 – 10:30pm

Who is Bettye LaVette you ask? The simple answer is Ms. LaVette is one of the greatest soul singers in American music history, possessed of an incredibly expressive voice that one moment will exude a formidable level of strength and intensity and the next will appear vulnerable, reflective, reeking of heartbreak. Unfortunately, it says much about the vagaries of the popular music industry that, although LaVette has been recording for over four decades, up to this point she has remained criminally unknown. There's a space in American music where country meets soul, where elements of blues, folk, pop, jazz, gospel and R&B melt in seamless alchemy, where genre boundaries are ultimately not very meaningful. For my money, the best of that music is rooted somewhere around two or three in the morning, when all is quiet, one's emotional guard is down and the musicians are able to drive the voodoo down, getting at the essence of what it is to be human.

Tickets: $20.00-$30.00 / 301-600-2828

More info: weinbergcenter.org…
