			<title>Women in Florida Field Botany: 1873-1972 with Alan Franck - Palm Beach County FNPS - Chapter Meeting - CONSERVATION GROUP</title>
			<description>UF IFAS/Mounts Botanical Garden Auditorium &lt;br/&gt;Tuesday, June 16, 2026, 6:30&amp;nbsp;&amp;ndash;&amp;nbsp;8:45pm &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#8220;Women in Florida Field Botany: 1873-1972&amp;#8221;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;People like Alvan W. Chapman and John K. Small figure prominently in early Florida botany. Overlooked are many women who made significant contributions in Florida field botany, such as Mary C. Reynolds, Eleanor Scull, Lucia McCulloch, Mary F. Baker, Lillian Arnold, Mary Agnes Chase, Helen Butts Correll, Ruth Schornherst Breen, Olga Lakela, etc. This talk will explore some of this history.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;On Alan Franck:&lt;br /&gt;Alan is a botanist and educator at the University of Florida herbarium, within the Florida Museum of Natural History located in Gainesville, Florida. Previously, he worked at Florida International University in Miami, studying the local flora and funga. He has also served as the director of the University of South Florida herbarium, which has a heavy concentration on the flora of Florida. He received his Ph.D. from the University of South Florida, where his dissertation studied the systematics of a rare cactus (Harrisia) in Florida and the Caribbean. His research continues to focus primarily on the plant and fungal diversity of Florida and parts of the Caribbean.&lt;/p&gt;More about our meeting:&lt;br /&gt;Third Tuesday of most months&amp;#160;- see&amp;#160;calendar&amp;#160;for dates and speakers.&amp;#160;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#160;&lt;br /&gt;6:30pm-9pm&lt;br /&gt;6:30pm - Mingle with plant nerds, experts, and visiting nursery folks. Ask questions, check out plants, share stories, make friends.&lt;br /&gt;7pm - Speaker Program&lt;br /&gt;8:15pm - Rundown and description&amp;#160;of plants available for the evening&lt;br /&gt;8:40&amp;#160;- PLANT DRAWING&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#160;&lt;br /&gt;Meetings are FREE to attend. Bring a friend!&amp;#160;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#160;&lt;br /&gt;Our chapter&amp;#39;s goal is to preserve, conserve, and restore the native plants and native plant communities of Florida. And so we&amp;#160;learn about various topics related to native plants, including their importance in providing native habitats, promoting biodiversity, and carving the pathway to sustainability. Connect with fellow environmental advocates and native plant professionals, exchange ideas, ask questions, and gain inspiration.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#160;&lt;br /&gt;Our popular&amp;#160;native plant drawing&amp;#160;follows the speaker program.
