To celebrate Atlanta as a host city for the World Cup this summer, Emory Libraries’ newest exhibition explores the intersection of soccer, culture, and identity. Drawing on Emory’s collections, academic expertise, and global partnerships—from sneaker culture influencers to community collaborators—it tells Atlanta’s connected stories of soccer, civil rights, and globalism from 1968 to today. Along the way, it shows how our region, our teams, and even our sneakers help express who we are.

The exhibition features Rose Library materials that highlight soccer’s cultural and historical impact across Atlanta communities, including memorabilia, photos, and artifacts from the Atlanta Chiefs, the National Professional Soccer League, and the creation of the North American Soccer League. Apparel from the adidas archives traces the shared evolution of the World Cup, athletic performance, and streetwear.

Curated by Randy Gue (Rose Library) and Melissa Carnegie, founder of Kicks & Fros, the exhibition is presented by Emory Libraries, the Michael C. Carlos Museum, and the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship. ⚽👟

Emory Innovation Certificate Program (Applications Now Open)

The Emory Innovation Certificate Program is an 8-month, hands-on biomedical innovation program designed to help participants translate healthcare and research ideas into real-world solutions through expert-led sessions and collaborative activities focused on healthcare innovation, entrepreneurship, commercialization, intellectual property, prototyping, translational impact, and venture development. All sessions are in-person.

Designed for Emory-affiliated faculty, clinicians, researchers, trainees, staff, and healthcare professionals interested in healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship; however, all interested participants are encouraged to apply, with admission based on course capacity.

The evening's concert features International Euphonium Tuba (IET) Festival Participant Ensembles and the Georgia Brass Band with soloists Ada Brooks, Philip Broome, Tim Buzbee, and Adam Frey.

For the past 23 years, the International Euphonium Tuba Festival has hosted more than 150 performers from around the globe at Emory University for a week of concerts, master classes, lessons, camaraderie, and workshops! Experience a different kind of heavy metal music with performers from Norway, England, Switzerland, the US, South America, and more. Audiences are invited to enjoy a tour-de-force of sound with free public concerts at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17— featuring the Georgia Brass Band—and 7:30 p.m on Saturday, June 20—the closing gala concert featuring more than 150 participant performers!

These free concerts bring an amazing variety of music to the Schwartz Center stage through the virtuosity of the tuba and euphonium.

She has more than 25 years of experience helping Georgia entrepreneurs and researchers understand, compete for, and secure federal funding through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Connie began her Georgia Tech career supporting the technology transfer of NASA-developed innovations and promoting NASA SBIR/STTR opportunities. Before Georgia Tech, she worked at TMP Executive Search and Solvay Pharmaceuticals. Connie holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mary Washington and an MLIS from the University of South Carolina.
