Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival

Summary: The week long Silk Screen Festival in Pittsburgh is the third largest Asian American film festival in the country. Come experience the vast diversity of the Asian creative spirit with 20-25 films fresh from the Venice and San Francisco film festivals, plus concerts, panels with Asian film directors and actors, and a beautiful Red Carpet Gala on May 10th.
Venue: Films will be screened at Regent Square Theater (Edgewood), Melwood Screening Room (Oakland) and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History "Earth Theater."
Price: $9.00 per adult for film screenings; $5 students with valid ID; $30 4-film pass ($36 value) and $60 8-film pass ($72 value)
Detail: Individual tickets may be purchased for $9.00 at each theater box office for that theater’s daily screenings. Patrons may also make advanced purchases of $30.00 Multi-Screening Passes, good for four films per pass, or $60.00 for eight films. Multi-Screening Passes are only available on the silk screen website: www.silkscreenfestival.org. A complete list of the films and the screening schedule may also be found online. The film festival's opening night Gala will be held at the prestigious William Penn Hotel on May 11th after the festival’s opening night film. Doors to the red carpet event will open at 8:00 pm and the celebration will continue until midnight. Taste sensational sips and exotic ethnic dishes from Japan, China, India, Korea, and more. Dance with Pittsburgh’s premiere Asian performers. Mingle with celebrities, gaze upon international fashions, and enjoy a world of colorful fabrics and faces., The Opening Night Film will start at 7:00pm and will be held at the Regent Square Theater - tickets for the film only are available for $20. Pittsburgh International Children's Festival

Summary: This special festival, just for kids, is celebrating its 27th year! Enjoy more than 30 free, hands-on educational and cultural activities, plus performances by groups from from wonderful places like Scotland, Russia, Kenya, Italy, Canada and the USA. This extremely popular event is one of only four international theater festivals for kids in the United States. The festival grounds are located on the lawns of the University of Pittsburgh, and on portions in and around Schenley Plaza and Carnegie Library. Performances will be featured at the Alumni Hall Theatre, Bellefield Hall Auditorium, and Henry Heymann Theatre on the University of Pittsburgh campus, plus the Cathedral of Learning lawn and Schenley Plaza.

Price: Festival grounds are free. Ticket packages range from $8 for one show to $24 for a 4-show package. Tickets to just Mirazozo are available for $5.

Ambridge Nationality Days

Summary: The Ambridge Nationality Days is a three-day festival of ethnic heritage, food and entertainment that is produced each May (this is its 48th year!). Enjoy food from all over the world: Italian, Polish, and Slovenian. Live entertainment, arts and crafts, and kids activities are also available. The main stage is located on 5th street and the Harmony Ridge stage in front of the Ambridge Area Chamber of Commerce.
Venue: Merchant Street, 4th Street to 8th Street
Price: Free admission, but food and drink will cost you
Detail: Festival times are Friday 12:00 noon until 9:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Sunday 12:00 noon until 6:00 PM. The parade will be Saturday, May 18 at 10:00 AM and proceed along Merchant Street from 14th to 4th Street, making its way through the festival.

National Road Festival

Summary: The 40th National Road Festival, known as "the world's longest festival," features entertainment, food, and fun along the Pennsylvania National Road. Travel the Road during the Festival and discover, antiques, ethnic foods, re‐enactors, local artists, crafters, and music. Explore toll houses and museums, visit National Park sites or just enjoy the ride through this historic countryside. The Festival is a celebration of the uniqueness of the towns and villages along the Road. The most amazing site to see is the reenactment of the Historic National Road’s transportation history - the Wagon Train. This living history is the centerpiece of the National Road Festival.

Summary: Honor our country's fallen and veterans with a day of family-friendly activities at Idlewild! Members of the Civil War re-enactor group Carpenter's Battery will set up an authentic Civil War encampment with scheduled demonstrations and battle reenactments throughout the day. All active-duty military personnel (and up to 3 immediate family members) will receive free admission May 25, 26 and 27, 2013. Must show military ID/military family ID.

Daytime admission rates are $15 for adults $14 for seniors (62 and over) and students with ID, and $11 for children ages 2 to 18. Phipps members and children under two are admitted free.

Pyrofest at Hartwood Acres

Summary: Back and even better is America's largest action-packed fireworks festival, called Pyrofest. The afternoon/evening festival put on by New Castle-based company, Pyrotechnico, at Hartwood Acres will feature more than $350,000 worth of fireworks, including an opening daylight salute to the military with colored smoke fireworks and lots of sound. Several other new fireworks displays are also in store, including a display by the world-renowned, award winning Ricardo Caballer Ricasa, who will bring their amazing display direct from Spain - a premier fireworks show that has never been performed in the United States. "Rock Loves II" will present an innovative, power-packed "sequel" display to top the award winning "Rock Loves," bringing in new, exciting choreography and materials in this never before seen display. Besides all the action in the sky, there will be food, a kid’s zone and live music. Headliners include The Clarks, Nomad, and Cello Fury.

Price: Tickets cost $22 for adults, $13 for kids, and children under 6 are free.
