Piccolo Chef, a Culinary Academy for Children and Teens ages 3-17, is located at the Westside Children’s Center in Culver City. Equipped with a state-of-the-art culinary kitchen for cooking courses, a classroom for etiquette courses, a private room for birthday parties and special events, outdoor party/class space, and its crown jewel-- a half-acre of land for a vegetable and herb garden for the students to harvest-- Piccolo Chef will be transforming tots and teens not just into “little chefs” as the Italian name translates, but into young gourmets.

The mission of Piccolo Chef is to teach the art and culture of Italian and International gastronomy to children and teens in a fun and unique way.

Rotating cast of restaurants throughout Lower Manhattan

The Alliance for Downtown New York’s successful walking food tour series, “Downtown Eats: Discover Deliciousness,” will continue to introduce culinary tourists to some of Lower Manhattan’s best restaurants and specialty food shops through November and December. The December events will feature festive holiday season food and drink. All tours will be led by intrepid food explorer, culinary expert and tour guide Nicole Harnett.

The Downtown Eats food tours will take place on alternate Saturdays each month from September 2009 through December 2009. The culinary adventures will feature a rotating cast of Lower Manhattan’s best restaurants. Participants in previous tours have enjoyed succulent sliders, briny oysters, fine wine and cheese pairings, delicious Italian salumi and cheese, lobster BLTs, artisinal olive oils, exquisite chocolate ganache, and much more of Lower Manhattan’s tastiest fare.

The tour will also offer participants insight into the history of Lower Manhattan’s development, and the recent changes that have made the area one of New York’s fastest-growing residential neighborhoods. Past stops on the Discover Deliciousness tour include Harry’s Italian, Les Halles Downtown, Jack’s Stir Brewed Coffee, Passanella and Son Vintners, Trinity Place, Provisions and Zaitzeff.
