First Sundays at the Commons brings three celebrated jazz artists currently residing in Portland, Oregon to Bainbridge Island on Sunday, February 12 at 4:00pm. Comprised of Randy Porter on piano, John Wiitala on bass and Alan Jones on drums these musicians have each played with some of the greatest names in jazz in the United States and Europe. The trio is headed by Alan Jones, otherwise known as "the barefoot drummer" who ranks as one of the most creative and powerful jazz drummers, composers and teachers today and pianist Randy Porter a Steinway Artist who according to Lynn Darroch of The Oregonian "has built a reputation as a musician's musician, a knowledgeable, inventive and sophisticated player with a remarkable sense of time and gorgeous keyboard facility". This concert is a not to miss event for lovers of jazz and live music.

“Immigration as a Moral Issue”
A six-session, open study group, beginning Monday evening, Feb. 13, will explore the history, stories, perspectives, policies, and moral principles that swirl around the issue of immigration, using readings, videos, visitors and discussion. Led by Cedars Unitarian Universalist Church co-minister Rev. Jaco ten Hove, with Betty Petras and Kathryn Keve, both very experienced in the field of immigration. Beyond genome sequencing cutting edge genomic analysis tools can be used to assess the status of the immune system from a few drops of blood. Field’s End offers “Writing Your Memoir,” a class for anyone writing or planning to write a memoir, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 15, 22 and 29 at the Bainbridge Public Library, taught by Corbin Lewars.
Lewars is the author of Creating a Life: The Memoir of a Writer and Mom in the Making (2010), which was nominated for the 2011 Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association and Washington State Book awards. Now, twice the fun each month! In 2012, on every first Friday and third Saturday, kids are invited to KiDiMu for a fun-filled evening of Museum playtime, games, movies and a pizza dinner, while their parents get to enjoy a night out!

Age-appropriate activities for children: 3.5-10 years old. Participants must be able to use the bathroom independently.

This a drop-off program. Pick-up before 9:30 p.m. is available. Registration is required.
