BACOA/Garlands Summer Lecture Series: The Art of Norman Rockwell

The Garlands of Barrington
1000 Garlands Lane
Barrington
Wednesday, June 19, 2013, 10 – 11:30am

Regarded as the most popular painter in America during his lifetime, Norman Rockwell has endured in the memories of people who enjoyed the covers he painted for The Saturday Evening Post for nearly 60 years.

Art professor and historian Jeff Mishur will discuss the development of Rockwell from his earliest days at The Post to his popular illustrations for Look and Life magazines. His appeal in the present day is based almost entirely on commercially produced reproductions of his work on everything from posters to coffee mugs. Mishur believes that it is for this very reason that we should take a closer look at the achievements of Norman Rockwell to reach a better understanding of his importance in American history.

The summer lecture series is presented by the Harper College Continuing Education Lifelong Learning Institute and co-sponsored by the Barrington Area Council on Aging and The Garlands of Barrington.

Cost is $10. For more information or registration, call BACOA at (847) 852-3892.

More info: www.bacoa.org…

Each elite player from around the country with at least a "B" average academically is eligible to participate. We have created an NBA like combine for the event and will provide each athlete the opportunity for a full showing of their abilities. After morning registration, station drills, and the mandatory NCAA video, there will be a lunch break followed by team practice. Games will start at 5pm with two 20-minute halves running clock. All players will receive equal playing time with each player getting 3 rounds of games for maximum exposure, allowing a real evaluation to be done. We then put together an event recap with information (g.p.a, act/sat scores, height, reach, weight) on every kid at the event and send the recap to over 100 coaches at every level of college basketball (D1, D2, D3, NAIA).

More info: www.eliteacademicathletes.info
