Description | Date: Thursday, November 10, 2016 Time: 6:00-7:00 pm Location: Discovery Hall Room 061 Free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served! Come hear an internationally renowned author talk about his new book, Hearts, Minds, Voices (Oxford UP). In the Cold War, the U.S. and Soviet Union fought to "win hearts and minds" in a global media war. People outside Europe and North America caught a propaganda blitz—led by slick 1950s-styled “mad men”—to win their loyalty in a world of racism, poverty, and empire. But the greatest consequences were led by the Third World. Newly independent voices in India, Egypt, Ghana, and elsewhere led public campaigns of their own, creating global visions that still resound today. |
