Search: Interactive Media Design Candidate: Liz Lessner Bio: (http://lizlessner.com/home.html) Liz Lessner is an artist whose research and interactive sculptures explore the ways physical computing, materiality, the built environment, responsiveness, and interactivity engage with contemporary discourses on the body, feminism, affect, and identity. Her sculptures and installations enact the places where culture and social norms influence the ways we navigate and perform intimacy. Her background as a nationally and internationally exhibiting artist includes solo shows at Big Orbit, a Center for Exploratory and Perceptual Arts Gallery Project Space; The University at Buffalo Visual Studies Gallery; and upcoming exhibitions at Rhizome, D.C. and The SchoolYard in New York. In addition to these solo shows and numerous two-person exhibitions and group shows, Lessner has received residencies and grants for work in Richmond, South Africa; at ArtScape Gibraltar Point in Toronto; at Guapamacátaro Center for Art and Ecology in Michoacán, Mexico; and through SUNY Buffalo. Lessner received her MFA in Media Study: Emerging Practices from SUNY Buffalo where she taught courses in digital arts, 3-d printing, wearables and ‘soft’ computing, and film studies. With a background in non-profit administration and community engagement, she has taught workshops in numerous settings, including ARTY, a summer technical institute for inner city youth; at Rhizome, DC; and elsewhere. |
