Search: Interactive Media Design Candidate: Javier Villegas Bio: (http://javiervillegas.info/) Javier Villegas works on the creative manipulation of multimedia signals to exploring different and surprising visual representations of video data. He has worked in immersive full-dome film as well as on smaller-scale interactive works. His creative work has been exhibited at numerous international new media festivals including Currents Santa Fe and Digital Latin America in Albuquerque. His animations have been presented in experimental short film festivals like Golden Orchid, VAFA 2012 and the Japan Media Arts Festival. His collaborative research has been published in the Proceedings of the ACM International Conference on Multimedia, The Proceedings of the IS&T/SPIE Electronic Imaging, Human Vision, and Electronic Imaging Conference, and the International Journal of Arts and Technology, among others. Having served as an Assistant Professor in the department of Electrical Engineering at Javeriana University in Bogotá, Colombia, Villegas moved to the United States to pursue a PhD in Media Arts and Technology at the University of California in Santa Barbara in 2007. He has been a lecturer at University of Arizona and has held a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the School of Information: Science, Technology and Arts (SISTA) where he assisted faculty with research projects, user studies, and coding. In addition, he helped set up the multimedia lab (SISTA) and pursued independent projects related to multimedia art and data visualization. |
