Description | Learn about a newly approved UW study abroad option for students (and recent alumni) to have a hands-on, immersive internship through Omprakash, a Seattle-based non-profit that partners with grassroots, social impact organizations working in low-income contexts in over 40 countries in the spheres of health, education, economic development, and environmental sustainability. Placements range from a couple of weeks to an entire year, and they tend to be more affordable than other UW-approved internship abroad options. Students earn UW credits by enrolling in a 3-credit, online, pre-departure course in the quarter before their placement, that encourages participants to examine their assumptions about volunteering/ service work, think critically about their role in a community abroad, and build relationships with other participants, as well as Omprakash mentors, who form a support network during the internship. Students can earn additional UW credits for the internship itself, with approval and oversight from a UW faculty member. More details about the program structure and costs can be found at the link below. All students are welcome at the info session - stop by to learn more! |
