RSVP Here>> Join us for a discussion of Just Mercy, the true story of Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative. Stevenson has won relief for dozens of condemned prisoners and received national acclaim for his work challenging bias against the poor and people of color. Alum Esther Pineiro-Hall ('09, Community Psychology) will facilitate our conversation and writes: "The last few years have revealed more clearly to our nation what many of us have personally known all along; our 'justice' system is broken and police brutality is rampant. In Just Mercy, Bryan Stevenson shares his experience as a young attorney facing this issue head on leading to the founding of The Equal Justice Initiative to defend the poor and unjustly convicted." This group was established by alumni of the Washington D.C. Human Rights Seminar and is open to everyone! Reserve a copy at King County Library System, Seattle Public Library, Sno-Isle Libraries, and UW Libraries*. *Alumni with active UWAA memberships may access the e-book through UW Libraries. |
