   - 2006). "One of the most extraordinary and powerful films at Sundanc
e\, this is the story of Jesus\, told in episodes from the New Testament
\, but set in present-day Africa\," writes Roger Ebert. "The film sends
an unmistakable message: if Jesus were alive today\, he would be single
d out as a dangerous political leader\, just as he was the first time ar
ound." This story of Jesus is told as an African fable with joyous\, fu
ll-throated South African music in beautiful landscapes strewn with impo
verished shantytowns. Its adaptation to modern South African customs cre
ates scenes that are unforgettable. \n\nRefreshingly free of doctrinal b
ias\, this film will be loved by Christian and non-Christian alike for i
ts universal message of innocence\, forgiveness\, tolerance and joy. (8
