Go Club for Kids & Teens

Learn to play the ancient and mysterious board game known as Go. Developed 4000 years ago in China, the rules are so simple they can be taught in a few minutes - but it can take a lifetime to master the game. Go boards are provided and take-home sets made of cardboard are available for free. Ages 5 and up.

Moscow Violin Duo performs

Vladimir Petrov and Lydia Svyatlovskaya, who perform extensively in regional orchestras and chamber ensembles across the nation as the Moscow Violin Duo, will perform a free show at the Meadows Branch Library.

As members of the Moscow Orchestra of Chamber Music, Vladimir and Lydia met and decided to spend their lives together as husband and wife. They have earned their way to the top of the musical world, Vladimir studied at the prestigious Gnessin Institute, where he was the orchestra's concertmaster; and Lydia was a select student in the world's most competitive violin program at the Moscow Conservatory.

Boulder Youth Chess Club

Applications for "Dance is for Every Body!"

Applications are available beginning July 1, 2008 for the Annual "Dance is for Every Body!" Showcase.

A wonderful outreach opportunity for dance artists, teachers, companies, individuals, studios and schools to reach new audiences and participate in a fun, informal, family-friendly showcase.

Held each fall in the Canyon Theater of the Boulder Public Library, the 2008 showcase schedule is Saturday, November 8th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, November 9th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The showcase runs continuously each day and artists are asked to apply with 5 - 15 minute presentation which can include lecture demonstrations, audience participation activities or mini classes, showing of work-in-progress, finished dances, or short dance films. Possible opportunity for more than one time slot available on the same day or each day (but not back to back).

Applications can be downloaded from the Dance Bridge Web site at www.artsresource.org… and must be received by the deadline on Friday, September 5. There is no application fee - open to all dance and movement artists.

Artists are asked to register with the Boulder Arts Resource (a free online site), at www.artsresource.org to participate. For more information on this and other projects of the Dance Bridge, contact Coordinator Mary Wohl Haan at 303-441-4391, haanm@boulder.lib.co.us or check the Web site.

The crew of the Rambunctious Reader discovered a stash of old computer parts hidden in the ship's keel. We need your help to put the computer back together again!!

Every Thursday at 3 p.m. through July 31, Computer Captain Nick supervises a crew to show them how a computer works and help them assemble the pieces to build a computer. At the end of the summer, they will have created a computer! Ages 8 and up. Registration is required; call 303-441-3099.

We will learn about the five major branches of Chinese cuisine and their relationship to geography, climate, and produce. JUST WRITE Junior group - Creative writing sessions for teens

This workshop is divided into "Junior" and "Senior" groups, both hosted by professional adult writers. The one-hour workshops feature writing exercises involving poetry, short stories, personal narrative, fiction, non-fiction, song writing, and more. Drop-ins are welcome.

There are no sessions Saturday, May 24 because the main library building is closed to accommodate the Boulder Creek Festival.

Over the Moon Ovations: A Showcase for the Passions, Creativity and Wisdom of Women in their Fifties and Beyond

Women in their fifties and beyond are invited to share their authentic voices and their creativity for the sheer joy of personal expression.

The format for this monthly program includes 30- to 60-minute pre-scheduled presentations, 30 minutes of open stage or discussion and 30 minutes of socializing following the presentations. Scheduling is generally first-come, first –served, though exceptions may sometimes be made for a timely or seasonal topic. To take the “open stage,” just show up prepared to present for 10-20 minutes (Plan to adjust your time based on how many actually participate in this portion of the event.)

The July presentation is titled, “A New Vision for Women in the Second Half of Life: A Multi-Media Collaborative Funfest!"

This program is supported by the Outreach Department of the Boulder Public Library.

Library Concert Series: "Clara's Gift"

"Clara's Gift," a music/theater experience about Frauenliebe und Leben, the extraordinary song cycle that Robert Schumann composed as a gift for his fiancée, Clara Wieck, during summer 1840, shortly before their wedding. By interweaving song, poetry, prose, and excerpts from the letters exchanged by this ardent couple, Clara's Gift argues that the cycle expresses not only Schumann's adoration of his wife-to-be, but also his fear that he was not worthy of her love. Presented by actress Elizabeth Mansfield, with participation from Elissa Guralnick, the author of an essay about Frauenliebe, and culminating in a full performance of Frauenliebe by mezzo-soprano Julia Tobiska.
