Full Description: Join The Seattle Public Library for the 2009 Living History Series. Clay Jenkinson presents his portrayal of Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States., This program will feature a three-part Chautauqua performance. First, the scholar will appear in costume in the persona of his character. Next he will open the floor to questions from the audience to President Jefferson. Finally, he will break character and respond to further questions based on his research., Clay Jenkinson, a former Rhodes Scholar, is one of the nation's most popular humanities scholars and the host of the syndicated radio program, "The Thomas Jefferson Hour." In “The National Parks,” a new film by Ken Burns, he speaks about Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt., He is one of founders of the modern Chautauqua movement. Jenkinson has portrayed Thomas Jefferson, Meriwether Lewis, Theodore Roosevelt, and other historical characters in first-person interpretations., Jenkinson lives in his native North Dakota, where he is director of the Dakota Institute, a columnist for the Bismarck Tribune, and Theodore Roosevelt scholar-in-residence at Dickinson State University., The 2009 McLellan/O’Donnell Living History Series is made possible by gifts from Mary McLellan Williams and the O’Donnell Foundation and through support of the National Endowment for the Humanities and The Seattle Public Library Foundation.
