C.I.C.L.E.: Urban Expeditions L.A. Creek Freak River Tour

Meet Los Angeles River Center
570 W. Avenue 26
LA, CA
Saturday, February 20, 2010, 12 – 3pm

On Saturday February 20th CICLE hosts our regular monthly Urban Expeditions ride: this time it’s the L.A. Creek Freak River Bike Tour. Urban Expeditons are family-friendly, beginner-friendly bike rides! Bring friends, kids, dress up, celebrate!

The upcoming river tour will be Saturday Feb 20th. Meet at 12noon (depart at 12:30pm) at the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens in Cypress Park (570 West Avenue 26, Los Angeles, CA 90065.) Take your bike on the Metro Gold Line and exit the Lincoln/Cypress Station. From there, turn left onto Avenue 26 and go three blocks and the River Center is on your left.

The event is FREE (though you can become a CICLE member if you want.) It will be a leisurely-paced ~2-hour ride, a little riding on streets, but mostly on the Los Angeles River bike path. Be one of the first to ride on the brand spankin' new city bike path through Elysian Valley. Remember those dips on that old cracked access road? Well it's all smooth new asphalt now! Come and check it out!

CICLE's campaigns director and LA Creek Freak blogger Joe Linton will lead the tour, stopping and talking about the river’s history, flora, fauna, and plans for the future. Fish biologist Sabrina Drill will also talk on the fish and fishing in this part of the river. The ride will showcase the Glendale Narrows – the very nicest soft-bottom part of the river, with plenty of tall willow trees, fish, birds, and more. It will be an excellent introduction to the river, and an easy group ride for newer and less confident bicyclists.

More info: www.cicle.org
