Sustainable Synergy is an alternative energy and energy conservation group focusing on the implementation of these types of projects on Clarkson's campus. There are great leadership and technical opportunities for students of all majors and class years to gain experience in policy, finance, management, and engineering in the alternative energy sector. Come join us at our weekly meeting's to enhance your knowledge base, network, and resume.

Let us know if you have any questions or need anymore information. The goal is to get the clubs name in the main line of the calendar like the outing club has for example, and not just have the line say "club meeting".

Philip Terrie is emeritus professor of American Culture Studies and Environmental Studies at Bowling Green State University and is currently NEH Distinguished Visiting Professor of History at SUNY-Potsdam. He is the author of three books and many articles on Adirondack history, including Contested Terrain: A New History of Nature and People in the Adirondacks. He is a former assistant curator at the Adirondack Museum and a 46-er.

What are the major environmental impacts of roads and road traffic, and what can we do to reduce these impacts?

Join Clarkson University Professor of Biology Tom Langen in a wide-ranging discussion about the field of road ecology and how biologists are working with transportation agencies to reduce the environmental harm caused by roads.

While working on his multi-award-winning book, Cool Creatures, Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents, Marty Essen and his wife, Deb, traveled the world searching for rare and interesting wildlife. Along the way, they swam with piranhas, hiked with the Porcupine caribou migration, had close-up encounters with humpback whales, were surrounded by wolves, and survived a hippo attack.

Marty took thousands of photos during his travels and has put the best of the best into his seven continents digital slide show, Around the World in 90 Minutes. Filled with stunning photos, little-known facts, and humorous stories, Marty's show is both entertaining and educational.

Climategate vs Climate Change: Science, Politics, and Public Perception

What happens when scientists engaged in research are expected to provide results that support the development of public policy, law, and even ethics? Can the scientific method – slow, deliberate, and abstracted from everyday life – be expected to inform public policy debates that are passionate and motivated by special interests beyond the “facts?” For 100+ years, scientists have been studying the “greenhouse effect,” highly complex systems in which gases trap solar heat and warm the atmosphere. Is it too much to ask that scientists leave their beliefs and opinions at the laboratory entrance? Is science always as “objective” as it is sometimes portrayed?

Please join us for a roundtable discussion with Professors Stephen Bird, Phil Hopke, Alan Rossner, and Bill Vitek on the current controversy (“Climategate”) and the accusation that some climate scientists ignored data that did not fit their models and views in support of anthropogenic climate change.

Relay for Life

Have you been affected by cancer? We all have at some point or another. We all know friends and family who are fighting cancer, and maybe even know someone who has lost their battle. Clarkson University is giving you the chance to take a stand and make a difference. This year is the 6th Annual Relay for Life at Clarkson.

Relay for Life is an overnight walk, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Cancer never sleeps and neither will we. All students, faculty, alumni, and community members are welcome to participate, forming teams, raising money, and walking in the event. A member from each team must be walking on the track at all times throughout the night. Even if you don't raise money or stay for the night you are more than welcome to participate in the opening ceremony.

Refreshments and food will be provided during the entire event.

Entertainment will also be provided, including volleyball and basketball tournaments, a DJ, and possibly local bands! Awards will be handed out for most money raised by team and individual, among others!! Don't miss your chance to help raise money to find the cure.

Relay for Life will be Friday April 9th at the IRC. So get your team together and start raising money!

Dr. Marty Klein has been a California-Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and Certified Sex Therapist for 29 years. Marty has consistently pursued a single set of goals: telling the truth about sexuality, helping people feel sexually adequate & powerful, and supporting the healthy sexual expression and exploration of women and men.
A former instructor at Stanford Medical School, Marty has written five books and over 100 articles on sexuality and other clinical issues. He is frequently quoted by the popular press, most recently in Newsweek, The New York Times, and on ABC-TV’s 20/20. He is outspoken about many clinical and popular concepts about sexuality, decrying psychotherapy’s and medicine’s gender stereotypes, sex-negativity, and what he calls “the Oprah-ization of therapy.” Marty is probably the country’s best-known critic of the sex addiction movement.
