An Afternoon at Black Diamond Mines

Join Clarkson alumni for an afternoon at Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve in Antioch, California!

On Sunday, May 19th we'll meet at Noon and enjoy tours, hiking and end with a group picnic! Space is limited to 15, so be sure to sign up early if you want to attend.

Here's the plan:
12pm: Tour Greathouse Visitor Center

12:30 - 1:30pm: A 1.5 mile hike with some elevation into the forests on the slopes of Mt. Diablo.

2pm - 3:30pm: Tour the Hazel Atlas Sand/Silica Mine. This is a 90-minute tour of about 1000 feet of restored mine tunnels with explanations of how the operations were conducted and examinations of 50 million year old fossils formed when the sand and coal were first deposited. Temperature in the mine is 56 degrees, so dress in layers. Hard hats and flash lights will be provided.

4 - 5pm: Picnic in the park! We'll provide hot dogs, hamburgers and salads.

What to bring:
Eat lunch before you show up, or bring snacks! We'll feed you dinner.

Sturdy shoes for hiking.

Water (at least 2 liters). Stay hydrated.

A small pack to carry the stuff you brought.

Dress in layers, and bring a jacket for the mine tour! It is warm in May and typically will not rain, but remember it is 56 degrees in the tunnel.

Drinks, dessert, appetizers, etc. to share at the picnic.

How to get there

Meet-up Location: Black Diamond Mines Parking Lot - Lot is located at south end of Somersville Road, Antioch, CA and about 1 mile south of the Park Entrance Kiosk (Pay Station).
BART Alternative - Can offer pick-up and return to Pittsburg- Bay Point BART from train arriving at 11:12 AM. Leave BART parking lot at 11:20 AM.

Join Clarkson alumni, students, parents, families & friends for a lovely evening at the Northport Yacht Club! On Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 pm the Long Island Alumni Chapter is hosting it's annual Spring Dinner and we are inviting parents, students and families to enjoy the evening.

Dinner includes unlimited trips to The World Renowned made-to-order pasta station featuring a selection of 3 base sauces, choice of 4 seafood options, 4 meats and over 10 vegetables! Full salad bar and an assortment of bread and rolls will also be available. Beer and wine are included before and during the meal. For those with any room left, we will also have dessert, coffee and tea! A cash bar will be available for mixed drinks.

Cost for the evening is $45 for those over 21 yrs and $35 for anyone under 21. Reservations need to be made online with payment by credit/debit card or check. No reservations will be taken after Monday, May 27.

As is tradition for this event, there will be a raffle with a Grand Prize set of 4 Field Level tickets at Yankee Stadium - the seats have been upgraded and are now in section 111 row 5 - this is REALLY close to the field! There will also be Clarkson themed consolation prizes. Raffle tickets are $10 each can also be purchased online - you don't have to be present to win the Yankees tickets. The lucky Grand Prize winner will choose from a selection of 4 games.
