On July 18th, at 6pm, the 808 Gallery will open its doors to exhibit the fresh face of Boston contemporary art. The third annual juried Boston Young Contemporaries Exhibition (BYC) represents eleven New England Master of Fine Arts and Post-Baccalaureate programs. This year's show includes over 90 emerging East Coast artists and encompasses a variety of contemporary painting, photography, video, and sculpture. Along with 159 artworks, and live music performed by DJ Ari Joseph, the BYC in a combined effort with Whole Foods Market will feature an edible instillation commenting on environmental degradation.

Interested in learning more about the rich history of the American Revolution? Come and join the Walk Into History tour brought to you by the Freedom Trail Foundation. Tour guides, who are dressed in traditional colonial garb, will take you to 11 of the 16 Freedom Trail sites.
These ninety minute tours are available Monday through Friday

Boston, MA-Authentic presentations of live jazz, swing and 20th Century popular music, define the sounds of Mark Mahar & Boston Swings, the Rat Pack era and American songbook summer series, July 13-Aug. 17, Cheers' Sam's Cafe, Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston.

"This kid sings so good, I want to punch him in the throat," quipped Big Band legend the late Buddy Greco.

Backed by the Boston Swing band, the Massachusetts-born Mahar, whose influences span the music of Sinatra, Dean Martin, Harry Connick, Jr., Glen Miller, Presley, Doo Wop and 50's rock 'n roll, gave up the construction industry for a full-time career in show business "mostly to improve chances of meeting Jennifer Love Hewitt," he admits.

His 2000 CD Blame It On My Youth, boasts 11 songs ranging from "One for My Baby and One More for the Road," to "Pennies From Heaven," "Send in the Clowns," "Autumn Leaves," and "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime." His 2007 CD Careless Moon, a musical dedication to "finding love, losing love, and finding it again," lists songs such as "Route 66," "Let's Kiss," "Got No Heart," and "Too Close for Comfort."

Read Boston Story Mobile in Chinatown Park

Hello Friends near Chinatown Park,

This summer the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy has arranged to have the City of Boston’s Read Boston Story Mobile in the Greenway Parks.

Every Monday afternoon at 1:15 in Chinatown Park, the van will be parked on the Kingston/Edinborough Road directly adjacent to the park and will read stories for a 45 minute session. At the end of the session, books are distributed to the children in attendance.

The age level is three to twelve years old and all are welcome.

Please help us spread the word and bring young children and grandchildren on Monday afternoons.

African drummer Stephen O'Neal has been part of the Elma Lewis School of Fine Arts' annual performance of Langston Hughes' "Black Nativity" since the beginning in 1970. O'Neal and drummer Salim Abdul-Rahman were students of the world renowned M. Babatunde Olatunji. O'Neal is the co-founder of IntaAfrika which has a 15 year history in the community. Joined by his 13 year old son, Stephen Korliss, the group has traveled extensively, with stops in Senegal and Gambia.

Afro-Brazilian ensemble Batukaxé presents a modern style of the authentic tradition of Blocos Afro and Axe music. Marcus Santos and Sandro Scoccia created Batukaxé as part of AfroBrazil.org,, an organization whose goal is to preserve, promote, and strengthen the Afro-Brazilian culture in the U.S. Developed in the state of Bahia, this music is rooted in the tradition of the Carnival Blocos Afro, groups of vocalists and percussionists performing Brazilian rhythms based on African roots.
