The Historic Preservation Board shall maintain an inventory of historically or archaeologically significant resources, districts, sites or zones within the City; recommend to the City Council properties for designation as historic resources, historic districts, archaeological sites and zones and monitor the administration and upkeep of the local register of historic resources and historic districts; serve as a quasi-judicial instrument to approve or deny special certificates of appropriateness; recommend to the appropriate bodies that certain provision of the City’s Codes be amended, varied, waived or superseded when appropriate as a means of encouraging historic preservation; develop, establish and regulate historic guidelines; make recommendations to the City Council about façade easements and the utilization of grants and donations; with the express approval of City Council, seek and solicit for grants and gifts; create and approve standardized historic markers and plaques; and comply with the requirements of the State of Florida’s Division of Historical Resources Certified Local Government program.

The board meets the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber.

An Exploration into the Life of the Fish Hawk (Osprey)

Bob Montana – Osprey Watch Organization

Bob is a volunteer at Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. His interest in Ospreys led to the establishment of Osprey Watch at the Refuge, which has become a multi-year project to document the lives of these birds of prey living in the Refuge. This is a portrayal of a typical nesting season. Additionally, the program showcases encounters with other wildlife in the Refuge – everything from River Otters and a family of Pileated Woodpeckers to fighting Red-Shouldered Hawks.

The Indialantic Chamber Singers (ICS) and the Space Coast Flute Orchestra (SCFO) will perform their ever popular “8th Annual Flutes and Voices of Christmas” concert at two venues. Both performances are on Sunday, December 13, 2008 with the first performance at 2:00 PM at Suntree United Methodist Church, 7400 N. Wickham Rd in Suntree, Florida 32940. Then, at 4:30 PM, the same concert will be performed at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 106 N. Riverside Dr, Indialantic, FL 32903. The concerts will feature both the ICS and the SCFO performing works individually, as well as several pieces performed together.

With attendance at these concerts seeming to grow each year, concert goers should plan to arrive early for a good seat. As always, concerts are open to the public and admission is FREE. Donations are gratefully accepted, though, to cover the costs of music and instrument maintenance. The Historic Preservation Board shall maintain an inventory of historically or archaeologically significant resources, districts, sites or zones within the City; recommend to the City Council properties for designation as historic resources, historic districts, archaeological sites and zones and monitor the administration and upkeep of the local register of historic resources and historic districts; serve as a quasi-judicial instrument to approve or deny special certificates of appropriateness; recommend to the appropriate bodies that certain provision of the City’s Codes be amended, varied, waived or superseded when appropriate as a means of encouraging historic preservation; develop, establish and regulate historic guidelines; make recommendations to the City Council about façade easements and the utilization of grants and donations; with the express approval of City Council, seek and solicit for grants and gifts; create and approve standardized historic markers and plaques; and comply with the requirements of the State of Florida’s Division of Historical Resources Certified Local Government program.
