LEADERS - Outward Bound Canoeing

All space is reserved for the winter participants. If space opens up I will contact people on the waiting list.

Registration closes 2 days prior to the event start. If you would like to register after the registration deadline email Shawn Olesewski at: solesewski@css.edu. We will do our best to get you on the trip, but your best bet is to register BEFORE the deadline.

Due to the nature of this event and the cold temperatures we ask that you show up with several layers to help you regulate your temperature during both high and low activity times. OP! can provide you with additional layers, please ask for them when we meet to issue gear and collect waivers. AVOID WEARING COTTON… it is not a very good cold/wet weather insulator. Bring a pair of winter boots to wear (also available from the OP!). If you don't need them we can lock them up at the OP! office. Bring a backpack, water, snacks, extra hat, extra gloves or mittens and a mug for hot drinks. If there is something that you don't have, please ASK for it when we meet at the start of the event.

During most of the winter events OP! will provide hot cocoa and or tea/coffee so bring a mug and we can use less disposable containers.

Please arrive at the OP office before the start time for the event you plan to attend so we can take care of paperwork and distribute gear as needed.

All events have a minimum enrollment, which will vary with each event. If we do not reach the minimum enrollment the event may be cancelled or changed. We will try to email you at least 24 hours before the event start to notify you of any changes or cancellations. If bad weather is an issue near the start of an event we will email, text and/or call you to notify you of changes. Please check your phone and email for event changes before coming to an event.

Summary: This is the Second half of the leadership development experience with Outward Bound. Throughout the trip you will begin to learn aspects of outdoor leadership. Topics vary from group to group but usually cover risk management, gear selection/packing, food selection/packing, safety, wilderness navigation, and a whole lot of outdoor skills., For additional details contact Shawn Olesewski.

Fee: Fee's are all covered by OP! as part of your leadership training and development.
Cancellation Fee: 100% refund if cancelled a week or more before the event. 50% refund if cancelled more then 2 days before the event. No refund if cancelled within 48 hours for the event.

Summary: Fresh off of its sold out performances of choreographer Carl Flink's evening length work Wreck at Duluth's Clyde Iron Works this past fall 2012, Twin Cities based dance company Black Label Movement returns to Duluth for two dynamic performances at St. Scholastica's Mitchell Auditorium. The company will present two engaging works never seen in the Duluth area by artistic director Flink: Canary, a surreal exploration of a prom night at the bottom of a mineshaft set to original music by Minnesota composer Greg Brosofske, and Field Songs, an examination of the collision of urban and rural landscapes. The St. Paul Pioneer Press declared about Field Songs, Flink "is a sophisticated artist who layers movement and meaning with a sure hand. Like the poet Walt Whitman, he sings the body electric. Dancers hurtle and bound through space with unfettered athleticism, tempering big, bold moves with a rugged lyricism as shapely and weathered as a piece of driftwood." At the end of the week you’ll get to take the ultimate challenge of competing in a sumo wrestling match!, Time: Our camps run from 9:00 to 3:00, Monday - Friday. Instructors will be in the lab at 8:00 for early drop off and will stay until 4:00 for late pickup. The early drop off and late pick up is intended for work time on Graphic Design. Students will stay in the lab during this time until parents pick up the student., Snacks/Lunch: We will take a lunch break at 11:30 am for about an hour as well as an afternoon break. We will eat in a classroom area or outside if the weather is nice.
