Riparian Buffer Planting at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport

Logistics: Meet at CHO at 8:30am for check in and registration. If traveling from Route 29, do not enter the main airport entrance but pass it to exit south on Dickerson Road towards Earlysville. Parking will be on the south end of the airport on the right. Follow the signs and balloons to the parking area. A shuttle will transport volunteers to the planting area.

What to Wear and Bring: Please wear warm, layered clothing and strong shoes or boots. A hat or ball cap is recommended, as are gloves to protect your hands. If you have planting tools (hoe, trowel or shovel) feel free to bring them.

Event Sponsors: The Charlottesville Albemarle Airport and the Rivanna Conservation Society, in cooperation with the County of Albemarle, the VA Department of Forestry and the Alliance for the Chesapeake are partnering to host this community event. Grant funding support is being provided by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.

What is a Riparian Buffer? Riparian buffer planting (definition - planting along a waterway) is an important environmental measure used to stabilize a river's edge. The installation of a riparian buffer can help reduce sedimentation, promote the absorption and filtration of rainwater run-off and can provide habitat for wildlife.

Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s draft master plan presentation

Consultants have been working with the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority since May 2009 on a master plan for the redevelopment of all 376 public housing units in the city. After multiple rounds of community meetings over the past 6 months, this is an opportunity to review and comment on the Draft Master Plan.

A copy of the Draft Plan will be available for review beginning on Wednesday, November 25th at www.cvillehousing.org or you may call and request a hard copy from the Central Office.

Food, drinks and childcare will be provided during the meeting. Parking is available in the Portico parking lot and on all of the adjacent streets.

This will be the final opportunity to provide input on the Master Plan before it gets completed. Comments received during this round of meetings will be incorporated into the Final Plan. Consultants will return one more time in January to present the Final Master Plan.
