CENTER EMMANUEL UMC CELEBRATING 150 YEARS

Center Emmanuel United Methodist Church on the corner of Hample and Pleasant Rd. is celebrating its sesquicentennial in 2013 with special events throughout the year.

On May 19th the congregation will “Rock to the Oldies” as they relive the 1950s and 1960s. The Sunday school children wearing their musketeer ears will march down the aisle to the “Mickey Mouse March.” The old 45 rpm records will be played on a 1950s Table-top Ristaucrat jukebox manufactured in Kaukauna, WI by Alfred and Arnold Ristau. The company was based in Appleton and produced 100 jukeboxes a day.

Tim Van Schyndel will present a program highlighting the church activities during this era and honoring the serviceman who served their country in the 1950s and the 1960s Vietnam War. It was 1963 when the church celebrated its 100 anniversary and this year in 2013 we celebrate 150 years of Christian fellowship.

A pizza party will follow the service and everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the music of the 1950s & 1960s.

Meet Abraham Lincoln and learn about the decisions that he had to make leading up to the Battle of Gettysburg and hear his authentic rendition of the Gettysburg Address. Relive the bloody conflict when Union and Confederate soldiers clashed in a tiny Pennsylvania town in 1863. Watch the battle unfold in front of you. Walk through the camps of the Union and Confederate armies. Interact with the soldiers and listen to their perspectives about the war. Learn about Little Round Top, the Wheatfield, Devil’s Den, and Pickett’s Charge. Hear how the battle of Gettysburg changed the outcome of the Civil War.
