Description: Natural disasters inspire awe and reflection, and frequently cause a good deal of material damage. How individuals and societies respond to such catastrophes tells us a great deal about the disasters themselves, but also quite a bit about the world views, cultural constructs, religious orientations, and social and political structures of those affected. In this presentation, Dr. Bell traces Jewish and Christian responses to natural disasters by examining several cases of natural disasters throughout history. He discusses the religious reactions and practical responses of Jews and Christians to these events, providing a unique and important lens for understanding Jewish and Christian society and the interaction of Jews and Christians throughout history.

Description: The Institute for Advocacy & Dispute Resolution is hosting one day "Shadow a Judge" programs at the Criminal Division, Juvenile Justice Division, the Second Municipal District (Skokie), and the Fifth Municipal District (Bridgeview) of the Circuit Court of Cook County this spring. We hope to recruit 10 students for each event, with a preference given to 2L or part-time students, who do not have the opportunity to do an externship, but who could take advantage of a one-day opportunity to learn more about the court and network. Generally, students are asked to arrive at the courthouses between 8:30-8:45 a.m. Students should be able to stay until about 3:30 or 4 p.m. In the morning, they will shadow the judges. During a catered in lunch, the students will be able to talk to the judges on a more informal basis. Then in the afternoon, they will continue to shadow., We will be providing transportation from DePaul and back for those students who want it. Event Sub-Title: Juvenile Justice Division
Description: The Institute for Advocacy & Dispute Resolution is hosting one day "Shadow a Judge" programs at the Criminal Division, Juvenile Justice Division, the Second Municipal District (Skokie), and the Fifth Municipal District (Bridgeview) of the Circuit Court of Cook County this spring. We hope to recruit 10 students for each event, with a preference given to 2L or part-time students, who do not have the opportunity to do an externship, but who could take advantage of a one-day opportunity to learn more about the court and network. Generally, students are asked to arrive at the courthouses between 8:30-8:45 a.m. Students should be able to stay until about 3:30 or 4 p.m. In the morning, they will shadow the judges. During a catered in lunch, the students will be able to talk to the judges on a more informal basis. Then in the afternoon, they will continue to shadow., We will be providing transportation from DePaul and back for those students who want it. Students interested in registering can contact me at ntaylor4@depaul.edu or (312) 362-8312. To get registered, students should provide their class level, part-time or full-time status, student identification number, and interest in transportation. If students are interested in the Juvenile Justice Division and would like to tour the Child Detention Center, they should also send me their date of birth., Students should not register unless they can commit to attending the event.
