The popular Tuesday Morning Bird Walks will start up again in March and continue through May. Walks will not be held in February to avoid the worst winter weather. Phil Budlong will be coordinating the programs. Meet at the Charlestown Mini-Super on Route 1-A at 8:00 a.m. If you'd like advance details on the itinerary for that week, email Phil at pbudlong@cox.net. No advance registration is required. DIRECTIONS: Meet at the "satellite" parking lot next to the Charlestown Mini-Super.

In Search of Horseshoe Crabs

Horseshoe Crabs congregate on shores across RI during the full moon high tides of May and June in order to lay their eggs. Join us for a discussion on the unique history and adaptations of this local ancient mariner. The presentation will begin at the Third Beach Education Center and then the group will head out for a hike along third beach in search of these fascinating animals. Appropriate for ages 8 and up.

Join Blithewold for special road trip to “tree mob” the Arnold Arboretum! You will be greeted by Bessie Van Wickle’s great granddaughter-in-law, Pam Thompson, Arnold Arboretum’s Adult Education Manager. Tree Mobs are interactions with scientists or other specialists at the Arnold Arboretum, and provide another pathway to enjoy and learn in the landscape. Experts share little-known facts about their living plant collection, its relevance today, and its importance to future generations.

Price includes round trip-bus transportation, light refreshments, admission to Arnold Arboretum, and a guided tour. We will leave Blithewold promptly at 8:30am and return to Blithewold before or by 4:30pm.

Pebbles of Purgatory Chasm

Blackstone Riverboat cruises on the "Explorer"
