<gc:about type="string">Meet Frances! Frances Ktenas is an intuitive tarot reader & advisor and has been reading for over 16 years. She can read a person's soul, sense their needs and experience their energy. Growing up, she would finish people's thoughts and conversations before they got a chance to say them and knew things before they happened. It never occurred to her that this wasn't normal for everyone.

Frances wanted to study psychology but instead studied engineering in college and marketing in graduate school. As a result of consequences from a personal tragedy, she received an unexpected gift of running a printing company in the city. It was there, in an elevator one day, that Frances was given her first tarot deck by a relative stranger -- a true calling, and one that she knows was divined. She began studying and learning and of course reading for anyone and everyone and she learned how to use her abilities.

Frances' gift is to see Light thru darkness. To show you your soul's path and to guide and empower you. Her style is loving, clear and above all inspirational. She uses the cards as a tool to offer you insight and her readings are enlightening, entertaining and always enchanting.

Fifteen minute readings are $40. Reservations strongly advised for this warm and wonderful reader! Call the Store at 212-243-5994.</gc:about>

<gc:about type="string">Minetta Creek Bluegrass, formed by Gene Tambor in 1992, is the longest continuously running bluegrass band in the New York City area. The group takes its name from a stream that flows underground through Greenwich Village, where the group is based. Today, Minetta Creek Bluegrass is: Gene Tambor (vocals, banjo, mandolin), Beth Tambor (vocals, guitar & flute), Leah Wells (banjo, mandolin), Bil Kurz (bass), and Jeffrey Young (fiddle). Past lineups of Minetta Creek Bluegrass have also featured artists like Bob Jones, Joyus Perrin, Sheriff Bob (now host of the famous Baggot Inn weekly bluegrass jam), and the late Steve Burgh. The band's music runs the gamut from clever originals to classic bluegrass & country to unique bluegrass versions of classic rock numbers by The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater, and more.

Bethe Tambor has been singing and writing songs since age 10. She began performing in church, covering Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, and since then has developed a substantial folk repertoire. She added her raw and gutsy lead guitar, heartfelt vocals, and original country tunes to Minetta Creek in 1996.

Leah Wells has been teaching banjo picking, guitar strumming, and mandolin chunkin' to adults and children on New York's Lower East Side for over 10 years. She also plays frequently at preschools, nursing homes, and everything in between, in addition to being a full-time mom.

Joe Choina , Bass Player, is the proud papa of Shoshy, Shlomo, and Channi. Lover of CBGB ( stands for "Country, Blue Grass, Blues")

Jeffrey Young plays bluegrass, classical, rock, and avant-garde music. A recent graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, he is trained as a classical violinist and composer and has a minor in music theory. </gc:about>

Looking for that happily-ever-after for your life? Wondering what to do about the dragons and challenging characters along the way? The images, symbols and stories of the tarot and of your dreams provide a wonderful mirror and map for you and your life journey.

Paula weaves tarot, dreams, fairytales and myths into a story that mirrors self-understanding and suggests a pathway for action. As the cards reveal your story, you’ll see what needs to be changed. You’ll find the gift of creativity. Most of all, you’ll be empowered to make the choices that lead to your own happy ending.

 <gc:category type="string">Booksigning</gc:category>
<gc:about type="string">For more than thirty years, Wendy Johnson, one of the founders of the organic Farm and Garden Program at Green Gulch Zen Center in northern California, has been meditating and gardening at Green Gulch where the fields curve like an enormous green dragon between the hills and the ocean. Her long-awaited book GARDENING AT THE DRAGON'S GATE is part memoir of a passionate gardener, part master class in organic gardening and sustainable agriculture, and part meditation on the natural world.

The Green Gulch Farm Zen Center in Marin County is famous for its founding role in California's food revolution, providing choice produce to farmers' markets and to San Francisco's Greens restaurant. As a founding member, Wendy Johnson gardened, taught, meditated, and lived at Green Gulch with her family from 1975 to 2000. There, and in and around the Bay Area, she has been teaching gardening and environmental education since the early 1980s, helping to establish many garden programs in local communities and public schools (including teaching and advising to the Edible Schoolyard program of the Chez Panisse Foundation).

A hands-on, how-to gardener, Johnson has filled her book with practical knowledge and fascinating garden lore, including the memorable lessons of her gardening mentors: the legendary English gardener Alex Chadwick and native plant expert Harry Roberts, who was part Yurok Indian. Whether prying apart mammoth Siberian iris roots, building steaming compost piles, scheming (in vain) to outwit marauding raccoons, or designing a garden to be “paradise with an address,” Johnson conveys her awe of life itself.

“Working in the garden is also meditation, though not in the conventional sense of calming down, moving slowly and deliberately, and dwelling in stillness. On the contrary, I am often most alert and settled in the garden when I am working hard, hip-deep in a succulent snarl of spring weeds. My body and mind drop away then, far below wild radish and bull thistle, and I live in the rhythmic pulse of the long green throat of my work.” </gc:about>

<gc:about type="string">An evening of mesmerizing meditation, and music you can feel! Join master gong musician Devya. Prepare to immerse in this incredible sound current and take yourself to a whole new level of spirit!

Devya plays the gong expertly, using drum mallets of different sizes to produce engaging tonal melodies and ancient rhythms. The effect is a massage with sound that transports listeners to a deeper meditative level--one that heals and rejuvenates you physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Please call to register 212-243-5995

Gong music is unique because it is both heard and felt. Simply listening to the sound can stimulate self-knowledge, spiritual development and genuine healing. The gong speaks to the body/mind in a way that cannot be communicated with words. Indeed, the sounds become so captivating and delightfully complex that your Ego will make way for true awareness to step forward--a moment that can change your life.

As you listen to the gong, you'll experience a heightened energy flow as brain waves travel from alpha [waking state] to theta [deep release] to delta [lucid dreaming]. You are now on your personal walk with Spirit. On this Journey, everyone feels a reduction of stress and tension. Everyone receives a special gift.

Your gift may be an increase in energy, power, awareness, problem-solving, creativity, healing or relationship insight. You receive your gift in a way that has been described as "magical". No two Journeys are the same: you get what you want, you get what you need, and sometimes you get suprised by what that is.

You'll discover how easy it is to use your expanded mind in ordinary waking consciousness to empower yourself and others.

This is a performance that requires nothing from you except your presence. So sit back, relax and enjoy...knowing that the benefits will resonate much longer than the concert itself.

<gc:about type="string">The New Moon signifies the start of new beginnings and is a powerful
time to come together as a group when the universe is most aligned to
support reassessing our intentions and planting seeds for prosperity,
peace, and success in our lives. This New Moon in Leo is especially
potent as it is also enhanced by the Full Solar Eclipse in the sign of
Leo, which serves as a powerful gateway of light in human
consciousness.

Eclipses mark times of deep transformation - they shine a light on
areas in our lives that have become stagnant and help us forge in to
new territory. Through the use of various sacred tools & meditations,
the ritual will work to direct this tremendous energy and light to
manifest our greatest dreams and open our hearts to the power &

<gc:about type="string">We know that writers like Blake and Shelly were inspired by dreams. Writers from John Steinbeck to Stephen King have used tarot cards for inspiration. Both dreams and tarot use image, symbol and metaphor to convey meaning and story.

With these tools, writers and other artists have a creative well for inspiration that never runs dry, and a hammer that smashes through creative blocks with efficiency. Paula teaches you some simple techniques for using these tools to connect directly with your creative muse.

For many people, understanding and using dreams and tarot cards seems to require dictionaries, visionaries or individuals with degrees or special intuitive abilities. Not so!

In this three-hour workshop, you will learn:

> how to remember, record, incubate, and mine your dreams for their
wealth of information, guidance and inspiration

> how to keep and use a dream journal as an abundant creative resource as well as your personal dream dictionary

> how to use active dream techniques to access and understand the
archetypes and images of any tarot deck

> how to use tarot cards and dreams to illuminate the next step in your project

> how to move back and forth between dreams and tarot cards to keep your creative process flowing smoothly

"In Sanskrit, Chakra translates into wheel, or disk. Chakras are energy centers; think of them as the software to the bodies hardware. There are seven major chakras that run down the center of the body and relate to the seven major nerve ganglia that extend from the spine. lAmong other things chakras correlate to elements, developmental stages of life, colors, sounds, bodily functions.

These energy centers in the subtle body form the bridge between our solid physical ground and our vast consciousness. Through the chakras you can learn to travel the bridge, up to liberate, down to manifest, in and out to relate to the world around you.

Events include Weekly Chakracize classes. Workshops. and Monthly Meetups to share Chakra experiences.

This group is open to all chakra seekers, both those new to the concept of chakras, and those more knowledgeable that are both looking to learn and experience more as well as share what they know.

<gc:about type="string">The Kala Chakra is one of the most ancient teachings given by Buddha, found in ancient palm leaf books in India. Using the sacred formulas of mantra and yantra, the Kala Chakra can help you develop huge divine protection from the Illusions of time so that that “time cannot bite you that easily.” In addition to protecting you from negative energy, the Kala Chakra can help you to overcome depression and heartbreak, get back the energy of the happy days of your life, develop inner wisdom, bliss and a deeper connection to your soul. “Once you are crystal clear, the Kala Chakra, time, will come back to you…it will bring you to the right spot.”

During the workshop you be initiated into the ancient Kala Chakra mantras, and you will create a power object by drawing the Kala Chakra yantra on copper.
The teachings of the Kala Chakra that we are sharing during this workshop have come into the world at this time through our guru, a highly respected, great spiritual master and saint, Sri Sai Kaleshwar, who went through an arduous journey in order to obtain this secret palm leaf book. Sri Sai Kaleshwar is known for his knowledge of ancient spiritual wisdom and practices from palm leaf books written by the Rishis (sages of India), miraculous healing abilities and social services in India. He comes from a lineage of great saints such as Shirdi Baba, Ramana Maharshi, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Jesus. His mission is to “bring a new kind of spirituality that creates happiness in every person’s heart, to change the world’s belief system and the way spirituality is practiced in the world… and to create spiritual masters, not students.” He is providing the tools and techniques for everyone to connect to the real Mother is physical form, receive amazing healing abilities and enlightenment channels. Of his work, Sri Sai Kaleshwar states: “I am teaching the divine tradition. It is not limited to any one religion. I don’t belong to any religion. I belong to the religion of truth and love.”

Come with your beloved one and join NLP Master’s Practitioner and dynamic yoga instructor Marisa Galisteo for a highly innovative workshop that will enhance the quality of your communication and thus deepen your relationship.

Understanding how the brain works does reveal why our natural patterns of communication don’t support effective listening. You’ll learn to use your heart to listen, rather than your mind, so that lightness and compassion can surface during what would otherwise be difficult conversations. There’s also a physical component to this workshop so dress in comfortable clothes!

<gc:about type="string">East West Living is pleased to welcome Michael J. Tamura, celebrated Spiritual Visionary, Teacher, Healer & Award-Winning Author of "You Are The Answer," in two life-illuminating events in New York City, only at East West Living.

Tonight: Free Lecture and Q&A, with a Book Signing of "YOU ARE THE ANSWER" to follow.

Born and raised in Japan, yet educated in American schools, Michael bridges gaps not only between East and West, but between men and women, young and old, heart and soul, mind and body, life and the afterlife – and, above all, between humanity and divinity. Daily, he dedicates his life to awakening souls.

Now, well into his 35th year of teaching, Michael is loved by many around the world as a master teacher and acclaimed as a major transforming presence in the fields of spiritual healing, clairvoyant development and soul fulfillment. As he says,

“Our spiritual fulfillment has nothing to do with the state of the world. Yet, more often than not, we allow the ever-changing conditions of the world, whether personal or global, physical or psychic, to mesmerize us into an assumed “reality” quite alien to our spirit and away from the peace of Divinity that is ever present. How do we stay true to our soul’s purpose while fully living in this challenging world? “

The acclaimed author of the book inspiring people in many countries to a new perspective on discovering and fulfilling their soul purpose, Michael will be in New York City for just two days to answer that all-important question.

Michael is a life-long clairvoyant and has explored this question from the soul’s perspective for all of his thirty-five years of teaching. He travels all over the world, and in every gathering, he shares his experience and insights and offers powerful psychic tools to help us live with both feet firmly on the earth as spiritual beings. </gc:about>

Not only does the moon have a magnetic influence over the tides of the
ocean, but also over the ebb & flow of our daily lives. This Full

when the sun and moon are in maximum opposition to one another.

Lunar Eclipses act as powerful gateways that work to change our lives

enhance our emotions and bring about deep inner changes. By working

<gc:about type="string">“What do I do with my life now?”

The question echoes throughout our lives, sounding off at unexpected intervals, emerging from some hidden cavern within each of us. We may feel doomed if we can’t answer this pivotal question, if we’re at a loss as to what to do next. Yet, as angels are wont to say: “Fear not!”

You may not believe it at first, but Michael Tamura, internationally renowned spiritual teacher and award-winning author of YOU ARE THE ANSWER, assures us that this question is actually a loving reminder from spirit.

In this soul-awakening and life-transforming workshop, he will teach powerful psychic tools to help us let go of our reactions so that we may discover the real message behind our question about what to do next -- choose spirit and fulfill our soul purpose.

Michael says,

“Even a seemingly hopeless situation is actually an opportunity for us to celebrate our inner spiritual progress. We ask, ‘What do I do now with my life?’ only when we, as souls, are done with what we were doing. We’ve ‘graduated’ from that life experience. We now need to move on to our next ‘lesson.’ And, what do we normally do when we graduate from school? We invite family and friends to celebrate with us. Whether it took us days or years of hard work, we made it through.

“However, when we ignore our true spiritual nature and fail to tend to our soul purpose, we experience fear. We often misinterpret the call from spirit as a threat to our security and identity. Then, we fall into the quicksand of trying to figure out what to do, further dividing our doing from our being. Running from fear, we seek answers separate from who we are. Sequestered from our truth, we become lost.

“On the other hand, when we can validate that we are, we will intuitively know what to do. Our actions flow effortlessly out of who we are. Spirit graces this world with life.”

If you wish to find out just where you are now as a soul and what you need to do next to fulfill your true purpose, join Michael and immerse yourself in this delightful workshop sure to be bubbling with wit and wisdom, inspiration and healing, love and laughter. Practice honing your intuitive skills as you learn powerful psychic tools to help you ground your body, center your awareness, and heal your inner self. It’s time to celebrate!</gc:about>

 <gc:category type="string">Special Event</gc:category>
<gc:about type="string">On Wednesday, August 20, it is East West Living's greatest pleasure to welcome the return of the Tibetan Monks of Gaden Ngari Monastery (Mongnad, India) for a 5-day ritual creation of a Sacred Sand Mandala. The festivities will include: Opening Ceremonies with prayers, music and chanting; public viewing of the mandala as it is created; live video feed to the store’s Fifth Avenue window; programs on Tibetan culture; and Sunday Closing Ceremonies with a procession to the Hudson River.

The public is cordially invited to participate in this rare cultural and spiritual event by stopping by the store at 78 Fifth Avenue at 14th Street during the following hours:

Wednesday, August 20
12 noon: Opening Ceremonies, Prayers, Music & Chants
1 pm – 8 pm: Public Viewing of Mandala Creation

Thursday, August 21 through Saturday, August 23
Daily Public Viewing of Mandala
Wed-Sat 12-8 pm
Sun, 12-6 pm

Sunday, August 24
12-6pm: Public Viewing and Completion of Mandala
6 pm: Closing Ceremonies and Procession to Hudson River

A Sacred Sand Mandala is a visual representation of one of the subtle, sacred realms of Tibetan Buddhism. Using millions of grains of colored sand laid on a simple, flat wooden platform, the monks painstakingly create the mandala using traditional, prescribed spiritual iconography. While creating the mandala, the monks engage in continuous prayers and other spiritual practices to imbue the finished mandala with their highest spiritual intentions. This in turn permeates the atmosphere of the surrounding environment, re-consecrating the earth and its inhabitants. It is said to be a picture of enlightenment. The traditional culmination of a sand mandala is its destruction after completion and the ritual offering of its sands into a nearby river, lake or ocean. This symbolizes the Buddhist concept of the impermanence of all physical life.

East West Living has requested that this mandala be dedicated to the physical, mental and spiritual healing of New Yorkers and all beings.

About the Gaden Ngari Khangsten Monastery

Through imperfect means, human beings strive for perfection and touch the divine. In the process, great civilizations come into being, diffuse joy and lend purpose and meaning to life for millions of people in different regions of the world. Re-established in India after the 1959 invasion of Tibet by Communist China, the monks of Gaden Ngari Khangsten Monastery are happy to contribute to the awareness of Tibetan Buddhism and culture through their tours. Contributions to the Monastery are welcome and will be accepted on their behalf at East West Living.</gc:about>
