This provides ideas to cover math's requirements for A level physicists who need support including differentiation at A level for mixed ability groups.

A-level Physics Day

A one-day CPD course for A-level Physics teachers in the London region, hosted by King's College, University of London.

This course is aimed both at experienced teachers of Advanced Level Physics and also those who are new to teaching the subject at this level. It offers a combination of lectures, demonstrations and hand-on practical activities.

Talks will include:

Making molecules real – the molecular weight meter and the Science behind it - Dr. Neil Downie (Science author)

Take two crystals from quartz watches and a dozen electronic parts and - BINGO ! - you have a molecular weight meter, as seen in Neil’s new Ultimate Book of Saturday Science. You will learn how make your own molecular weight meter – and look at the science behind how it works. There will be a whole bunch of other related demonstrations from a binary pinball machine to underwater bells.

CERN@school - Dr. Tom Whyntie (Imperial College, Queen Mary, STFC researcher)

CERN@school is a project that brings CERN technology into the classroom to enhance physics teaching and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. You will find out how to get access to CERN-developed particle detectors for your lab, data from the space-based Langton Ultimate Cosmic ray Intensity Detector (LUCID) experiment, and all the educational resources and analysis tools you need to share the excitement of CERN with your students.

Summer Residential Course

A free two week residential course designed to boost Physics subject knowledge. The course is particularly well suited to those currently in teacher training but more experienced teachers looking to refresh their subject knowledge are also welcome.

Experienced teachers, university lecturers and guest presenters will deliver talks and supervised lab work covering the basics of key stage 3 and 4. The delegates have an opportunity to meet recently qualified teachers during the evening sessions. The last day is given up to project work culminating in small teams presenting to the whole group.

Charterhouse offers this course for free as part of its Education in the Community programme.
