SUMMARY:Old Master Highlights of the Works on Paper Collection
LOCATION:Carlos Museum - First Floor
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20091115
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20091115
X-MICROSOFT-CDO-ALLDAYEVENT:TRUE
DESCRIPTION:The Works on Paper Collection of the Carlos Museum contains
 more than 4\,000 prints\, drawings\, and photographs. Chronologically\,
it ranges from a thirteenth-century illuminated manuscript page to a twe
nty-first century monoprint. This exhibition presents prints and drawing
s from the sixteenth\, seventeenth\, and eighteenth centuries. The earli
est works are engravings by three great printmakers of the early sixteen
th century: Albrecht Dürer\, Lucas van Leyden\, and Marcantonio Raimondi
. Also to be found are portraits of and by noted Netherlandish engravers
of the latter half of the century\, Philips Galle\, Dirck Coornhert\, a
nd Hendrick Goltzius. These three artists\, among others\, also feature
prominently in this fall’s third floor exhibition\, Scripture for the Ey
es: Bible Illustration in Netherlandish Prints of the Sixteenth Century
(October 17\, 2009–January 24\, 2010).\n\nBy the end of the sixteenth ce
ntury\, etching had become the favored printing technique of artists in
Italy and the North\, as the works by Annibale Carracci\, Federico Baroc
ci\, and Rembrandt show. Along with the etchings by Carracci and Barocci
\, the two drawings by the Italian masters Palma Giovane and Giovanni Ma
uro della Rovere manifest the increasingly naturalistic form of expressi
on coming to the fore at the turn of the seventeenth century. The two pr
ints by Barocci and Rembrandt also demonstrate how the dissemination of
prints facilitated the exchange of ideas and influences between one part
of Europe and another.\n\nThe exhibition closes with several images of
Rome. The seventeenth-century "Gardens of Rome" by Falda document the ap
pearance of the city in the age of the Baroque. Piranesi’s views and ima
ginative recreations of ancient Roman monuments reveal the thinking of a
n early archaeologist in the eighteenth-century city.

SUMMARY:Old Master Highlights of the Works on Paper Collection
LOCATION:Carlos Museum - First Floor
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20091116
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20091116

 6\, 2009\nTime: Networking 6:00-7:00 pm\, Panel 7:00-8:30\nLocation: Goi
zueta Business School\, Emory University\n\n\nFor companies just startin
g out\, or growing at a rapid rate\, using the talents and expertise of
experienced C-Level professionals greatly improves the path to success a
nd increases the value of the business. Unfortunately\, employing C-Leve
l or other Executive-Level talent is often out of reach for many rising
businesses. Whether in areas of technology\, marketing\, legal or human
resources – or even in top level general management\, we often feel that
we have to compromise and prioritize. “We can’t hire that c-level now –
we’ll have to wait until the next round.”\n\nToday\, there are new ways
that small- and medium-sized companies can take advantage of the expert
ise outsourced C-Level executive skills – either as an in-house or off-s
ite executive – without taking on the expense and risk of a full-time em
ployee.\n\nIn this informative panel\, professionals from several busine
ss areas are joined by venture executive and a “serial” board member to
discuss the ways that these arrangements might work.\n\nExperienced and
recognized c-level skills enhance the trust and confdence of investors\,
vendors\, bankers and customers. How can we achieve scale without break
ing the cash flow or decreasing the “runway”?\n\n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

SUMMARY:Old Master Highlights of the Works on Paper Collection
LOCATION:Carlos Museum - First Floor
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20091117
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20091117

DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20091118
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20091118

\, featuring works by Lucas van Leyden\, Maarten van Heemskerck\, Dirck

SUMMARY:Old Master Highlights of the Works on Paper Collection
LOCATION:Carlos Museum - First Floor
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20091119
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20091119

DESCRIPTION:Jamie Smith\, Ph.D. examines themes of foreignness and famil
iarity in Baptism of the Eunuch by Allaert Claesz\, Isaiah’s Prophesy ov
er Jerusalem by Philips Galle\, and other works. She elucidates imagery
that signifies Christ as the intermediary who resolves otherness and dis
cord to reconcile God and man. Dr. Smith’s discussion underscores the fu
nction of biblical prints in the sixteenth century as accessible devotio
nal instruments for the pursuit of unity with God. Dr. Smith\, an indepe
