Call to Artists: 2012 Fire and Earth Coastal Pottery Expo

The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park & Cultural Center announces its “First Call” to all potters and ceramic artists who would like to participate in the second annual pottery exposition event titled Fire and Earth: 2012 Coastal Pottery Expo. The event is scheduled on Saturday, April 21st, 2012 from10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the grounds of Heritage Park and Cultural Center. Non-refundable booth fees for artists are $40.00 per 10 ft. X 10 ft. space. Space is limited. Artists must provide their own tables and tents if they wish to have them.

Artists interested in participating can stop by the Indian Temple Mound Museum or Full Circle Art Gallery in Fort Walton Beach and pick up an application, or call/email to have an application faxed, mailed or emailed. The Indian Temple Mound Museum is open from 10:00 to 4:30 Monday-Saturday, and Full Circle Gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday from 11-6pm and 1-5:00pm on Sundays. Applications must be postmarked by April 7th.

Fire and Earth will celebrate the ancient art form of ceramics and pottery by featuring all forms, genres, mediums, and styles created by potters and ceramic artistans throughout the Gulf Coast region. Therefore, all aspects of the item must have been produced by the artist (original molds are acceptable if the artist created them).

Potters and ceramic artists will display, sell, educate and share their work with the public on the museum grounds throughout the day. Students that submit their work to the Pottery Youth Art Competition will display their work and will be awarded placement throughout the day. Additionally, several demonstrations on pottery will take place throughout the day.

Organized in 1907 as the Colored Primitive Baptists of America, this national organization (now known as the National Primitive Baptist Convention, USA) represents churches in 18 states. Its mission is to promote unity among its people; foster the cause of education, evangelism, and mission; and, participate in worship experience.

Phyllis brings years of expertise in this technique and a passion for teaching others to this class.

This class will feature two hours of instruction, and you must bring a skein of yarn to the class. Cost is $15.00 for the public and $12.00 for Friends of the Museums members. Dr Meyer-Arendt’s talk will discuss the process of legalizing casino gambling, geographic restrictions of gambling, Indian gambling, and the social impacts of gambling. Dr. Meyer-Arendt is a professor at the University of West Florida who teaches numerous classes on geography, tourism studies, and the environment. He is the author/co-author of numerous journal articles, most recently Direct and Indirect Mortality in Florida during the 2004 Hurricane Season in the International Journal of Biometeorology. His current research interests are coastal studies, environmental geography, coastal mapping, and tourism impacts
