   Richard Leyner\n\n7:30pm- 8:10pm Wendy Greue
l\nWendy Greuel was sworn in as City Controller of Los Angeles on July 1
\, 2009\, the second woman to be elected to a citywide office in the Cit
y's history. The City Controller ensures that City Hall spends taxpayer
dollars wisely and responsibly by identifying and eliminating wasteful s
pending\, exposing fraud and abuse in city government.\nWendy is a lifel
ong Angeleno\, who was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley and at
tended UCLA. Upon graduation\, Wendy learned how to make things work for
people at City Hall in the office of Mayor Bradley\, where she was the
mayor’s liaison to the City Council\, City Departments\, and the communi
ty\, on public policy issues including child care\, the homeless\, the e
lderly\, and health issues.\nIn 1993\, Wendy served with Cabinet Secreta
ry Henry Cisneros as the Field Operations Officer for Southern Californi
a for the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). She oversaw
HUD’s emergency response and recovery programs after the 1994 Northridge
earthquake. In 1997\, Wendy joined the Corporate Affairs Department of
DreamWorks SKG where she worked on the company's government and communit
y affairs programs.\nIn 2002\, Wendy was elected to the Los Angeles City
Council and represented the Second District in the Northeast San Fernan
do Valley for seven years. As Councilwoman\, Wendy worked tirelessly to
be an independent voice fighting for the Valley’s fair share of city res
ources. She focused on reducing traffic\; banning road construction duri
ng rush hour\; creating anti-gridlock zones\; ensuring the completion of
the Northbound 405 carpool lane. Wendy worked tirelessly to make Los An
geles more business friendly by cutting the City’s business taxes. Wendy
saved taxpayers millions of dollars by consolidating departments\, cutt
ing wasteful government spending and identifying fraud and corruption in
city government. She has also sought to reduce the influence of money o
n our political process by banning City Commissioners from fundraising.
\nShe currently lives in Studio City and is married to Dean Schramm. They
have a six-year old son\, Thomas.\nController Greuel will update us on
audits she has completed so far this year and what she plans for the fut
ure. She will also clarify her views on the proposed appointment of an
L.A. DWP Rate Payer Advocate as proposed and supported by Valley VOTE.\n
We are very pleased to have Wendy Greuel take time out of her very busy
 schedule to visit us.\n\n8:10pm - 8:30pm Jarrod
Degonia\n\nJarrod Degonia has been the District Director for Assemblyme
mber Cameron Smyth for the 38th State Assembly District since 2006. He h
as been working for a number of years on the clean up activities at the
Santa Susana Field Lab\, also referred to as Rocketdyne\, located in Ven
tura County\, west of the L.A. City boundary in the San Fernando Valley
. Jarrod has become knowledgeable with the issues surrounding the Field
Lab as well as having relationships with individuals on all sides of the
discussion and debate. Jarrod has worked with the community\, regulator
y entities\, property owners\, and local governments to gather support f
or legislation to form the Santa Susana Park at Rocketdyne. He will bri
ng us up to date on the status of this effort.\nWe thank Jarrod for taki
ng time to bring us up to date on the Santa Susana Park legislation that
Valley VOTE has supported since March of 2008.\n-----------------------
 -----------------------------------------------------------\nQuestions f
rom the audience\, as time permits\, will follow each speakers remarks.
The public and press are invited to the meeting.\n\nThe next regular mon
thly meeting of Valley VOTE will be on Monday\, January 18\, 2010. Los A
ngeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich will be our featured speaker.\n\n-

 esidents\, business people\, educators\, community activists\, and organ

DESCRIPTION:Share the adventure\, fantasy\, romance\, and the triumph of
good over evil! For more than 175 years\, E.T.A. Hoffman’s classic tal
e of Clara and her prince has delighted children of all ages. Set to mu
sic by Tchaikovsky\, the Nutcracker’s story enchants as your favorite ch
aracters are brought to life in this newly choreographed holiday favorit
e—a Hollywood-themed presentation of art deco sets and glamorous 1930's
costumes!\n\nSanta Barbara’s State Street Ballet is returning to the Per
forming Arts Center at California State University\, Northridge\, for an
unprecedented eighth year to sell-out crowds. State Street Ballet has
achieved international acclaim for its innovative productions in the dan
ce landscape\, melding ballet and other dance forms into a nostalgic tou
r de force. \n\nFounded in 1994 by Artistic Director and former ABT danc
er\, Rodney Gustafson\, State Street Ballet has brought audiences to the
ir feet from California and throughout the country to exotic and far awa
y places such as China and Taiwan. The company has achieved its level o
f excellence by the diversity of its productions\, from the most innovat
ive ballets choreographed by Mr. Gustafson and others like New York’s Bi
ll Soleau and San Francisco’s Robert Sund\, to highly praised presentati
ons of the classics.\n\nState Street Ballet’s touring productions have i
ncluded an exciting variety of excellent ballets\, including Carmen\, Th
 e Handkerchief\, Beauty and the Beast\, Cinderella\, Nutcracker\, as wel
l as the foot-stomping Tango and Malambo. These works are all original
pieces brought to life by world-class choreographers and brilliant dance
rs.\n\nArtistic Director Gustafson possesses a rare combination of crede
ntials among artistic directors—a master’s degree in business enhanced b
y a successful dance career. As a dancer with American Ballet Theatre\,
Gustafson worked with many of the greatest dancers of our time\, such a
s Mikhail Baryshnikov\, and the most famous choreographers of the era: A
 lvin Alley\, Balanchine\, Rudolf Nureyev\, Jerome Robbins\, and Anthony
Tudor. He also appeared in the films Turning Point\, Baryshnikov’s Nutc
racker\, and several Live from Lincoln Center productions.\n\nAccording
to the Los Angeles Times\, State Street’s Artistic Director “Gustafson h
as built a company respected for its choreography\, dancing and fiscally
responsible management\, proving against all odds and naysayers\, that
ballet is alive and kicking in Southern California.”
