"Going to The Dogs" Featured at High Desert Frameworks! Bend Oregon

It started one afternoon as Kathy Deggendorfer and Tonye Phillips took their dogs out for a walk along the Metolius River and wondered what the neighborhood looked like from “a dog's point of view.” The result is a delightful limited edition series of five watercolor and fabric art pieces from this talented collaborative duo. The images feature a variety of breeds on the “Street of Doghouse Dreams” - and what lucky pooch wouldn't want to live in these whimsical houses? Tonye's wonderful hand-quilted original designs are faithfully recreated – using fabrics sourced here in the United States – by skilled quilters in China. Kathy's colorful watercolor paintings are professionally reproduced as fine art giclees on high quality archival watercolor paper. The combined pieces of artwork are expertly framed by Myrna Dow, award winning framer, of the High Desert Gallery of Central Oregon. Come see what all the barking is about!

The exhibit and sale of “Going To The Dogs” will be available throughout the month of November, 2009 at High Desert Frameworks!, 431 NW Franklin at Lava, Downtown Bend, Oregon. The feature and exhibition will continue through November 2009. Plein Air Painters of Oregon Annual Show Moves To Redmond Gallery for November

After a successful month long exhibition and sale in Bend, the Plein Air Painters of Oregon Annual Show,titled “Celebration Oregon!”, will be moving to High Desert Gallery's Redmond location at 453 SW 6th Street at Evergreen, in downtown Redmond, Oregon. The exhibition and sale will be available from November 6th through November 30th, and features 40 paintings selected by juror, Cindy Briggs.

What: Plein Air Painters of Oregon Annual show, “Celebration Oregon!” will be featured at High Desert Gallery, Redmond.

High Desert Gallery announces “Perception and Imagination: Exploring the Landscape,” a new collection of oil paintings by Oregon artist Sue Favinger Smith, as the November Artist Feature at our Bend Oregon Art Gallery at the Oxford Hotel, 10 NW Minnesota Avenue at Lava.

“I've always thought Perception without Imagination would create a world limited to things and not stories, which seems quite boring to me. I remember reading about the shamanistic influence for cave and rock art, explained by the San Bushmen in the Kalahari Desert. They said images did not always represent real people, animals, or places. Signs such as dots, lines, or alterations to form were used to signal a shaman's spiritual journey or change. These haunting rock paintings were not mere pictures but links to something deep in the imagination.

The idea found it's way into this new body of work. My images are not about places or things: I interpret the landscape to a point and then let the painting take over. It's experimental and the result is not always what it seems. Look for the signs. Links to the imagination. Or the places that aren't quite real.” Sue Favinger Smith, Redmond, Oregon 2009.

Since then she has focused on oil painting, exploring the techniques and color used by painters who inspire her. She is best known for her poured oil "Elements" paintings, luminous landscapes and the semi-abstract Mesa Series...but she has recently added still life and the figurative Ancestor Series to her painting oeuvre.
