Local Weather, Photographs by Joe Johnson

Pictura Gallery 122 W. 6th Street
Bloomington, IN 47404
Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 11am – 7pm

Joe Johnson's landscapes, in the series Local Weather, reveal a world that has been transformed by snow and ice.

These compositions, though stark, portray a delicate and simple beauty that is particular to the midwest. The minimal tonal range provides a contemporary counterpoint to the tradition of black and white photography; the result is a collection of mesmerizing still imagery with unexpected grace.

Presenter: Pictura Gallery
Contact: Lauren Kniss
Cost: Free
Ticket Phone: 812.336.0000
Communities: Bloomington
More info: www.picturagallery.com

Spun: A Comedic Rock Musical

Bloomington Playwrights Project
107 W. 9th St.
Bloomington, IN 47404
Saturday, May 25, 2013, 7:30pm

With his lead singer checked out and their reunion show just days away, Jesse knows he must mend the explosive relationship with his sister and former band mate, Molly, before the curtain goes up.
Bloomington Playwrights Project
107 W. 9th St.
Bloomington, IN 47404
Saturday, June 1, 2013, 7:30pm

With his lead singer checked out and their reunion show just days away, Jesse knows he must mend the explosive relationship with his sister and former band mate, Molly, before the curtain goes up. After nearly ten years though, it may be too late to heal old wounds. The composer and lyricist of the hit Kissing Frogs, Jeremy Schonfeld returns to create this intimate, high-octane musical that explores the complexities of family and story-telling, weaving together the memories and unique perspectives of siblings with comedy, wit, and rock.

Written By: Music & Lyrics by Jeremy Schonfeld; Book by Emily Goodson
Cost: $16 students and seniors; $19 adults
Ticket Web Link: bctboxoffice.com…
Communities: Bloomington
More info: www.newplays.org

Mathers Museum of World Cultures Exhibit--The Day in Its Color: A Hoosier Photographer's Journey

Mathers Museum of World Cultures, 416 N Indiana Ave, Bloomington, IN
Sunday, June 2, 2013, 1 – 4:30pm

This exhibit presents a survey of Charles Cushman's archive of photographs, the largest known body of early color photographs by a single photographer, 14,500 in all, most shot on vivid, color-saturated Kodachrome stock.

From 1938-1968, Cushman--a sometime businessman and amateur photographer with an uncanny eye for everyday detail--travelled constantly, shooting everything he encountered as he ventured from New York to New Orleans, Chicago to San Francisco, and everywhere in between.

His photos include portraits, ethnographic studies, agricultural and industrial landscapes, movie sets and media events, children playing, laborers working, and thousands of street scenes, all precisely documented in time and place. The result is a chronicle of an era almost never seen, or even envisioned, in color.

Museum hours are Tuesday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday, 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Closed Mondays and major holidays.

Presenter: Mathers Museum of World Cultures
Contact: mathers@indiana.edu
Cost: Free
Communities: Bloomington
More info: www.mathers.indiana.edu
