Summary: The Phila Ceili Group and the Irish Center will sponsor a monthly session at the Irish Center on Friday night from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The Phila Ceili Group will sponsor a slow session from 8 to 9 p.m. and the regular session will be sponsored by the Irish Center and runs from 9 to 11 p.m., The slow session is a traditional Irish session in all ways except one: the tempo. We will play common session tunes that are normally played at fast tempos at a slower pace, so that beginning and intermediate players can more join in. Also great for experienced players who are picking up another instrument!, Since this is a traditional Irish session we will not use any sheet music. It will be helpful to bring some type or recorder (tape or MP3) to practice the tunes we went over at home.

Summary: Gabriel Donohue makes a return appearance to the Irish Center for an evening of traditional ballads, songs and tunes. Gabriel appeared for a concert in December, along with Marian Makins and Caitlin Warbelow and the trio charmed the audience with their unique talents and mixtures of songs and tunes. Join them as they entertain us one more time! Gabriel is well-known not only for his lovely guitar playing and great singing voice, but also as a producer of many CD's of well-known musicians. Many Delaware Valley residents may have seen him when he played for audiences at the shore in Cape May and Sea Isle City. Caitlin Warbelow hails from Fairbanks, Alaska and is a fiddle genius. Marian Makins, originally from the Washington, DC area but now living in Philadelphia, has the voice of an angel and graces many of the area's sessions with songs in both English and Irish.

Summary: The Phila Ceili Group and the Irish Center will sponsor a monthly session at the Irish Center on Friday night from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The Phila Ceili Group will sponsor a slow session from 8 to 9 p.m. and the regular session will be sponsored by the Irish Center and runs from 9 to 11 p.m., The slow session is a traditional Irish session in all ways except one: the tempo. We will play common session tunes that are normally played at fast tempos at a slower pace, so that beginning and intermediate players can more join in. Also great for experienced players who are picking up another instrument!, Since this is a traditional Irish session we will not use any sheet music. It will be helpful to bring some type or recorder (tape or MP3) to practice the tunes we went over at home.

Project Children was formed during the "Troubles" by members of the NYPD to bring children of both Catholic and Protestant backgrounds to the United States for a few weeks in the summer and give them a chance at having a peaceful, non-violent summer. My family has had the pleasure of hosting two sisters from Belfast for the last three years and are looking forward to doing the same this summer. However, to do so, we need to raise the funds to pay for the cost of bringing them to the United States. With the help of Division 6 and the generous donation by Division 1, Bucks County, of the use of their hall for the third straight year, we hope to accomplish just that.

Anyone interested in being a host family can contact me, Paul Wiese, at afobpro@comcast.net and I can get in you touch with your local area co-ordinator who will walk you through the process of becoming a host family.

We are also asking for donations in the forms of baskets for Chinese auctions or reserving a table (see below). Summary: Isaac Alderson began pursuing Irish traditional music at the age of thirteen in his home city of Chicago. Throughout his teenage years he had the good fortune to study with Fermanagh flute and whistle master Laurence Nugent, and took piping lessons periodically with Al Purcell, Kieran O’Hare, and Jerry O’Sullivan, among others. At the 2002 Fleadh Cheoil in Listowel, Isaac was named the All-Ireland Senior Champion on three instruments: uilleann pipes, flute and whistle, the first American to do so. Now residing in New York City, he plays throughout the northeast and across the country, and in Europe and Canada with a wide range of traditional and modern Irish music artists, including the well known fiddler Eileen Ivers., Gráinne Murphy was born in Boston, where she began playing Irish music at an early age. Having received a fiddle at age four, she began taking weekly lessons with Séamus Connolly, the renowned All-Ireland champion fiddler from Clare. After several years of studying with Séamus she went on to win All-, Ireland honors of her own. Along with her brothers Daniel and Patrick Murphy, pianist Peter Barnes and Séamus Connolly, Gráinne recorded her first group album when she was fifteen years old. She has performed with many fine Irish musicians, including numerous guest appearances with Joanie Madden and Cherish the Ladies. Her new CD, Short Stories, is her first solo recording., Alan Murray began playing Irish music on the tin whistle at the age of nine in Glasgow. By age twelve, he was playing in a céilí band for weddings and parties around Scotland. Alan later moved on to the guitar, inspired by his teenage lust for rock music. After a number of years, his traditional roots won out, and he began a serious career playing trad music on guitar and bouzouki. Since moving to New York in ‘06, he has become a fixture in the Irish music scene and a sought-after accompanist.
