DESCRIPTION:STG Presents Brandi Carlile at Bellingham’s Mt. Baker Theatr
e on Friday\, March 19\, 2010.\n \n\n*Charity Fee is for Looking Out Fou
ndation – more information at www.brandicarlile.com\n \n\nA gifted singe
r/songwriter whose rich voice and literate storytelling belie her youth.
(she was only 23 when she released her major-label debut) Brandi Carlil
e was born in the small town of Ravensdale\, WA\, an isolated community
50 miles away from Seattle. With few neighbors or friends nearby\, Carli
le grew up learning to make her own entertainment\, camping and hiking i
n the nearby woods and teaching herself to sing. Carlile grew up listeni
ng to the classic country music her parents doted on (Patsy Cline remain
s Carlile's favorite singer)\, and she made her stage debut at the age o
f eight after she was taken to a local country radio show by her mother.
\n\nAt 17\, Carlile picked up the guitar\, having developed a taste for
rock & roll through Elton John's classic albums of the 1970s (she cites
Tumbleweed Connection as a particular favorite)\, and she began hitting
the Seattle bar scene\, playing anywhere she could get a gig (including
a stint singing backup for an Elvis Presley tribute act). While playing
clubs\, she encountered a band called the Fighting Machinists\, featurin
g twin brothers Tim Hanseroth on guitar and Phil Hanseroth. Impressed by
their instrumental skills and spot-on harmonies\, Carlile became an ins
tant fan of the Fighting Machinists\, and when the group broke up\, she
persuaded the Hanseroth twins to form a group with her.\n\nWhile they st
arted out as an aggressive rock & roll band\, Carlile's emotionally powe
rful songwriting and acoustic guitar work soon became the dominant compo
nent of the group's sound\, and they began touring regularly\, headlinin
g small venues and opening shows for Dave Matthews\, Shawn Colvin\, and
India.Arie. In 2000\, Carlile recorded the first of several self-release
d recordings that sold briskly at shows\, and in 2005 Carlile was signed
to Columbia Records\, releasing a self-titled album later that same yea
 r. The album earned enthusiastic reviews\, and Carlile was named one of
2005's "Artists to Watch" by Rolling Stone. In 2006\, Carlile and her ba
nd began work on her second Columbia album\, with T-Bone Burnett produci
ng. Titled The Story\, it was released in spring 2007.

DESCRIPTION:World Premiering on the Village Theatre Mainstage and writte
n by Emmy-award winner Randy Rogel comes over-the-top hilarity in the ne
w musical The Gypsy King. Leo and Frederick are a father-son acting duo
whose unfortunate run-in with the royal guard causes quite the royal ruc
kus. Bearing a curious resemblance to the arrogant Prince Alfonse\, Fred
erick finds himself in a dangerous position. Laugh riotously as you foll
ow his adventures into the middle of an assassination plot that takes hi
m through a maze of castle doors\, to the bottom of a moat\, and beyond.
With a classic vaudeville feel\, this new musical romp will cause quite
a stir with its fast-paced comedic action.

With a classic vaudeville feel\, this new musical romp will cause quite
a stir with its fast-paced comedic action.

an American family that doesn’t realize they’re Asian. Ed likes to play
golf\, Grace wants another child\, Desdemona is desperate to get into P
rinceton\, and Upton is working towards gaming superstardom. When Upton
gets an indentured Chinese servant to help him with his homework\, life
in the Wong household takes an interesting turn…. Flipping every cliché
about Asian American identity upside down\, this award-winning play by
Lauren Yee is an "exhilarating send-up" of the American dream.

DESCRIPTION:World Premiering on the Village Theatre Mainstage and writte

whose unfortunate run-in with the royal guard causes quite the royal ruc
kus. Bearing a curious resemblance to the arrogant Prince Alfonse\, Fred
erick finds himself in a dangerous position. Laugh riotously as you foll
ow his adventures into the middle of an assassination plot that takes hi

With a classic vaudeville feel\, this new musical romp will cause quite

DESCRIPTION:A second performance on Saturday\, March 26 at 7pm as well.
\n\nThe Madrona Children’s Theatre (MCT)\, in cooperation with Madrona K-
8 school in the Edmonds School District\, is producing its 17th musical
 – Oliver! The cast is comprised of 78 Madrona students in two casts (Cha
rles cast and Dickens cast). \n\nAs in seasons past\, MCT productions ar
 e performed by Intermediate (4th – 6th grade)\, Middle \n(7th – 8th grad
e)\, and DHH students\, with all who audition getting to participate in
the production. Each year the production offers something unique\, such
as using a shadow casting technique with disabled actors. This year\, Ol
iver! features six DHH students (more than ever before)\, and there are
a whopping four sets of identical twins participating in the production
\, two in each cast. \n\nNearly 1300 students have participated in MCT ov
er the years\, with some even going on to success in regional theatre gr
oups\, television and film\, including Brett Davern\, who has appeared s
everal times this season on CBS' s "Cold Case." Another MCT alum Kevin H
amedani has directed a film airing in February 2010 in major theaters ca
lled "Zombies of Mass Destruction".\n\nOliver! is based on Charles Dicke
ns' touching tale of an orphan boy who runs away from an orphanage and t
ries to pick a pocket or two\, but gets caught. The show spawned several
musical standards including "Food\, Glorious Food"\, "Consider Yourself
"\, "As Long as He Needs Me"\, "You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two"\, "O
om-Pah-Pah" and "Where is Love?" and the 1968 film version won six Acade

an American family that doesn’t realize they’re Asian.
