DESCRIPTION:Combining the crackled surface of raku ceramic with the tran
sparency of cold-mold glass\, Portland-based artist Judy Hill creates fi
gurative sculptures that have an unexpectedly charged psychological pres
ence. With over 10 figurines and 4 works on paper on display\, Hill rein
forces the figures’ fragility through the exploitation of the medium’s i
nherent lightness and draws the viewer into the inner life of the figure
 .

For Change band features musicians from around the globe\, many of whom
appeared in the now ubiquitous "Stand By Me" video (which has been viewe
d on the internet more than 30 million times) including New Orleans base
d blues singer Grandpa Elliott and soul singer Clarence Bekker from Amst

Johnson and the musicians of Playing For Change were just named "Person
s of the Week" on ABC's "World News Tonight with Charlie Gibson."\n\nPla

Around the World\, released on April 28th\, stunned the music industry
selling over twenty-six thousand copies in its first week and landing at
#10 on Billboard's Top 200 Pop chart. This remarkable and unpredicted
popular response has been driven by tens of millions of video hits\, cou

internet and word-of-mouth has struck a profoundly enduring chord world-

  the Who\, Captain Beefheart\, Os Mutantes\; dashes of folk\, blues\, an
d garage rock\; and Eleanor's adventures in Europe.

DESCRIPTION:SEATTLE PREMIERE OF FILM ABOUT PAPER FOLDING\nAT THE INTERSE
CTION OF ART\, MATHEMATICS\, AND SCIENCE\n\nGet your fold on. On Saturda
y\, November 21\, 2009 at 3:30 PM Community Cinema Seattle presents the
free Seattle premiere of BETWEEN THE FOLDS directed\, written and produc
ed by Vanessa Gould at SIFF Cinema. When you look at a piece of paper\,
what do you see? Blurring the mysterious lines between art\, science\, s
culpture and math\, the film is an exhilarating adventure into origami -
or paperfolding - featuring works of art whose emotional expressiveness
and engineering complexity defy logic. Just as Michelangelo might have
seen a statue standing frozen inside a block of marble\, the eccentric a
rtists and scientists in BETWEEN THE FOLDS envision the three-dimensiona
l possibilities of paper\, and\, as if by alchemy\, change the mundane i
nto the poetic and magical — all with no scissors\, no tape and no glue.
Ultimately\, the medium of paperfolding itself — a blank\, uncut square
  — emerges as a resounding metaphor for the creative potential of us all
. Paperfolding is all around us in - among other things - air bags\, mic
rowave popcorn bags\, and parachutes.\n\nThe screening will be followed
by an audience Q&A with local paperfodlers and hands-on demonstrations i
n the lobby after the discussion. The event is open to the public and a
ll are welcome.\n\nThe ITVS/PBS Discussion Guide (PDF\, 240K) is availab
