What can you do with a few loaves of bread and fish? Quite a lot!!
This is the miracle described in all four of the Gospels of the New Testament in which Jesus directed his disciples to feed five thousand people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. And you can watch it performed in the musical Table for Five . . . Thousand!, to be performed by the youth of Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue, Clive, Iowa on Saturday, February 11 at 4 and 5 p.m. and at 10 and 11 a.m. on Sunday, February 12.
Over sixty children will sing, dance and act out this musical, by Tom Long and Allen Pote, based on Matthew 14: 13-21, Mark 6:31-44, Luke 9:10-17 and John 6:5-15. The performance of the musical is an annual tradition for Soli Deo Musica, the fine arts ministry of Faith Lutheran Church and Faith Lutheran Church. Other musicals performed by the youth at Faith Lutheran Church include Survivor Babylon (2011) Once Upon A Parable (2010) and Are We There Yet? (2009).
To get to Faith Lutheran Church, located in the western part of the Des Moines area, take Interstate-235 to the Valley West Drive exit and head north to University Avenue. Go west on University Avenue beyond the K-Mart store. Faith Lutheran Church is on the north side of University by the Clive water tower.

A few years back we lost one of our closest friends named, Cory Allhiser, to a snowmobile accident on Feb. 8th, 2010. With him leaving behind 2 children, a unborn baby and a fiance, this prompted us to help his grieving family as much as we could and with the financial burden his death left behind, I decided to hold a memorial ride in his honor. The ride was dated for Feb. 20th, 2010 due to concerns of the snow melting, by the time I attained the families blessing for the event, it left me 8 days to organize it. We scrambled and worked our tails off and I am proud to say that the event covered close to all of the expenses of Cory's funeral.

The family has blessed me with continuing this tradition and allowed me to help another family each year that had to go through the hardship of losing a family member doing what we love to do, snowmobiling. This year we will be having the 3rd Annual Cory Allhiser Memorial Ride in Honorary Memory of David Fretty. David was riding his motorcycle July 7th, 2011 in Rochester, MN when he was struck by a drunk driver. The family was faced with a difficult decision to send David to a care facility in Minneapolis that could better care for him during his coma. They endured traveling back and forth for nearly 3 months before David succumbed to his injuries on October 25th, 2011 leaving behind a daughter named Mariah who had only turned 1 year old 5 days before he daddy's accident. The story doesn't end there. David's step father, Jim, who works 2 jobs to support his wife and her children, took David's mother, Diane, to Chicago to be with her family during Thanksgiving to help her ease her mind over the death of her son. While in Chicago, Jim fell and shattered his hip, requiring immediate surgery in Chicago. While in the hospital, Diane was running errands and was brutally rear ended totaling out there car, luckily, her injuries were not serious. They had to hire a driver to take Jim back to Minnesota after his surgery and Diane had to fly back. Now Jim is out of work for a few months to recover. This family is going through their toughest time and we are focused on helping them take off some of the burden of the death of their child, loss of their car and the loss of their income while Jim recovers but the main thing is we would like to make sure this little girl is taken care of in their time of need.

The event will start Feb. 18th, 2012 around 10:00am starting in Austin, MN and the ride will last till about 7:00pm ending at the River oaks Golf Club in Ausitin, MN with many stops along the way. People who do not have vehicles are encouraged to follow the action in a vehicle as many do. Anyone can ride for free but in order to receive a shirt, game entries and door prizes, you must make a $25.00 or higher donation ($20 if prepaying online). After the ride, we will all gather for music, games, auctions, raffles, food and friends .

We are looking for donations of cash, auction items, advertising, food or anything to help us hit our goal of helping this family. I was hoping that you could donate some things, shirts, autographed items, anything that we could use to raise money for the Fretty family this year. Any donations you could give or if you know of any companies that would like to donate to our cause to help this family would be very appreciated. Anything you can do will be a great help!

We are also looking for a main sponsor for the event, a main sponsor will be mentioned in every aspect of our marketing until next January. This presentation will focus on robot teams and their use in real-world problems. Our vision is of a distributed robotic system that is made up of a large collection of medium size, small, and miniature robots all connected by a wireless communication network and cooperating to accomplish their given mission. We have built robots that can swim, roll, and fly by utilizing a unique blend of scientific principles and sound engineering. Our basis is an evolutionary robot design that has been deployed in thousands of sites all over the world.
Speaker: Professor Nikolaos Papanikolopoulos specializes in robotics, computer vision and sensors for transportation uses. He is the Director of the Center for Distributed Robotics and leads the Security in Transportation Technology Research and Applications (SECTTRA) program. He is credited with being the major driving force behind the Scout, a small reconnaissance robot now used by the United States Army. Papanikolopoulos and his robots are often featured in the news and are part of University advertising campaigns.
