Canyon County Passport to Adventure

Treasure Valley families have a great opportunity for summer adventure! Thirteen Canyon County organizations have come together to create the Passport to Adventure: Explore Canyon County, a summer program to connect families with local opportunities for adventure and learning. The Passport to Adventure is an invitation to explore local culture and history, get physically active, and participate in library reading programs. To complete the adventure, participants must get two stamps in each of those three categories.
The program begins May 31st and ends August 9th. To participate in this FREE adventure, children 18 and under may pick up a passport at any participating organization, get their six passport stamps, and return the completed passport to any participating location before August 9th. All completed passports will be entered into a drawing for great prizes from local businesses!
Program details, a prize list, and contact information for all participating organizations are on the passport and at the Canyon County Passport to Adventure website (www.passportadventure.blogspot.com). Passports may be picked up beginning May 31st at all participating organizations: Caldwell Public Library, Caldwell Family YMCA, Caldwell Parks and Recreation, Canyon County Historical Museum, Celebration Park, Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge, Hispanic Cultural Center, Middleton Public Library, Nampa Parks and Recreation Public Pools, Nampa Public Library, Nampa Recreation Center, Our Memories Indian Creek Museum, and the Warhawk Air Museum.

Cancer Society community
event, the Relay For Life of
Ada County.
We need people in the areas
of:
committee co-chair, team
recruitment, team mentoring,
youth recruitment/involvement,
pr & marketing,
accounting, logistics,
luminaria, survivors, and
advocacy.

We'd love to have people
interested in giving a little
time or a lot. Committee
positions can be broken down
into smaller parts and
volunteers can give as little
as an hour a week to 5 hours a
week. The planning committee
meets once a month and will
meet more frequently the
closer we get to the Relay.

The City Of Trees Marathon has both a Half Marathon and a Full Marathon on Sunday October 5th, 2008. The Marathon starts at 8:00am and the Half Marathon starts at 9:00am. The race start and finish will be at Parkcenter Park, on Parkcenter Blvd. Boise Idaho 83706.

The Payette Lake Run events are on Sunday August 31st, 2008. There are three event distances. All races finish at Carey Park. The complete lap around the lake is a 30K or 18.6 miles and starts at 8:00am. The 8.6 mile run or the half way around the lake run, starts at 9:00am from an unpaved section of the lake road. (buses leave at 8:00am from the finish line). The 3 mile run starts at 9:00 from Lick Creek Road.

There are two Packet Pick-ups

The first one Is Wednesday, August 27th, from 4-6 pm at Shu's Idaho Running Company 1758 W. State Street in Boise, Idaho. The second packet pick-up is Saturday, August 30th, 2008 from 4-7 pm at the Pancake House in McCall.

Sounds from the mountain will be heard once again this year at the 3rd annual Music in the Mountains Music festival in Garden Valley, taking place August 2-3, 2008. Previously a Bluegrass/Country event and though we love our Bluegrass we have decided to add more of a genre mix this year. While still having Bluegrass we will be adding some Alternative Country, Singer-songwriter, Blues, Folk and Rock. We will be hosting Boise and the Treasure Valley’s best musicians along with great artists from the region such as Salt Lake City, Portland and Seattle.

Camas County Fair Bed Race

Once again it’s time to get those beds ready for the Camas County Fair Bed Races. Jason Lugo, Publisher of Southern Idaho Living Magazine, listed the Camas County Fair Bed Race as his favorite fair event for all of southern Idaho in the July/August issue.
The bed race will take place on Main Street (Soldier Road), in Fairfield at 7pm on Saturday, August 2nd. The Bed must be at least a twin size and human powered. Teams must consist of five members. The bed and team members must be under control for the most part (this hasn’t always been the case) and there must be four pushers and one rider with a switch of riders at the turn around point. Bed decorating is encouraged; this year’s theme is “Clowning Around Under the Big Top”.

Soul Food Festival
