 r is a free program for pulmonary patients designed to support and educa
 te individuals who struggle with respiratory difficulties. \n\nMonthly m
 eetings feature lectures from health care professionals and opportunitie
 s for sharing information. \n\nStudies have shown that well-informed pat
 ients require fewer hospital and doctor visits. We have educational pres
 entations on a wide range of relevant topics\, including: \nHow COPD aff
 ects the lungs\nBreathing techniques\nExercise: Why it’s important to th
 e pulmonary patient\nTalking with your physician\nMedications and other 
 treatment options\nMedical tests and what they determine\nNutrition for 
 the pulmonary patient\nSupplemental oxygen\nHome health care\nLung trans
 plants\nAir pollution \n\nThe goal of support groups is to improve the q
 uality of life and functional status for members by providing disease sp
 ecific education and emotional connection which may prevent exacerbation
 s requiring medical care\, thereby reducing the health\, economic and so
 cial burden of lung disease. \n\nThe Better Breathers Club is sponsored 
 by Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute and the American L
 ung Association. Meetings are scheduled the fourth Thursday of every mon
 th at 3 pm in the private dining room in the cafeteria.

DESCRIPTION:Lawnwood has partnered with other community resources includ
 ing the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) to provide both inpatient and 
 outpatient support groups. \n\nThese support groups are designed to educ
 ate regarding the signs and symptoms of stroke/TIA\, and the importance 
 of activating the EMS system. In addition they empower survivors and car
 egivers with knowledge of community resources and coping mechanism to de
 al with continued disability to obtain an optimum state of health. \n\nO
 ur inpatient group meeting is held every Tuesday at 11:00am on our strok
 e unit. Our outpatient Stroke Support Group meet monthly on the second F
 riday of each month from 2p -3p at the Pelican Yacht Club. \n\nTo rgeist
