Celebrating its 20th year, the 4MBS Festival of Classics has become a Brisbane musical tradition, uniting Brisbane’s finest choirs, orchestras, ensembles and soloists for performances of the great classics.

The festival will also mark the 200th birthdays of Verdi and Wagner, including a specially-commissioned theatrical presentation by Eugene Gilfedder about Richard Wagner and the Ring Cycle, as well as a celebratory performance of the magnificent Verdi Requiem on Sunday 26 May.

Major highlights in the 20-event festival include:
• one of the favourite pieces of all time, Carmina Burana, performed
by The Queensland Choir
• performances of 20 beloved Beethoven piano works by leading Brisbane pianists in the Queensland Conservatorium
• the popular Brisbane Philharmonic Mother’s Day Concert
• concerts by the Lipman Harp Duo, the Queensland Wind and Brass,
the Queensland Youth Orchestra, the St Lucia Orchestra and the
Queensland Symphony Orchestra
• Saints and Sinners – Verdi’s Women!
• a special Medici concert by 4MBS patron and pianist Roger
Woodward.

Music features strongly once again as a key generator of emotions and the opening concert event of Italian Week celebrates Giuseppe Verdi’s 200th anniversary with Verdi’s Requiem will see over 200 performers onstage and will feature Australia’s tenor Rosario La Spina in Brisbane’s newly refurbished City Hall and conducted by Antoni Bonetti.

Recipient of the 2013 Lord Mayor's Australia Day Awards for the Community Event of the Year.

This Mini “Royal Show ” is Showtime in the Suburbs. Residents in the Carina and surrounding districts have been looking forward to The Crackerjack Carnival for over 35 years now and the next one is scheduled for Saturday 1 June to Sunday 2 June 2013 and will be yet another wonderful event. Described as a mini “Royal Show ”, with many of the attractions of its larger RNA counterpart but considerably cheaper for families to attend, the carnival usually attracts some 25,000 people.

Proceeds from the 2013 Crackerjack Carnival will go towards maintaining facilities and supporting the 20 clubs of various descriptions that call the Clem Jones Centre home. The Clem Jones Centre relies heavily on sponsorship from individuals, companies and the community to ensure the continuing success of the Crackerjack Carnival.

The Zillmere Festival: One Place, Many Cultures

Parkinson Dragonboat and Multicultural Festival

The Parkinson Ward Multicultural and Dragon Boat Festival first held in 2010, is now an annual event on Brisbane's Multicultural calendar co-ordinated by the HAKKA Association, Forest Lake Rotary Club and the Queensland Dragonboat Federation and is proudly funded by the Brisbane City Council.

As part of this festival, the day traditionally commences with a citizenship ceremony followed by a full program of multicultural entertainment, Dragonboat races with professional teams competing in the Lord Mayor's Dragonboat challenge and lots of multicultural stalls including a vast array of tantalising multicultural food.

The Dragon Boat Festival commemorates the 2000 years' old story of the statesman and poet Chu Yuan, who in the 3rd century, in protest against a corrupt kingdom, threw himself into the Mi Lo River in despair.
