The Taming of the Shrew

15 S Pioneer St
Ashland
Sunday, May 19, 2013, 1:30 – 4pm

A tale of two sisters

Sweet-tempered daddy’s girl Bianca can have her pick of suitors—but not until her sister, the acid-tongued Kate, can be married off. Rising to the challenge is rockabilly musician Petruchio, but can he match Kate jab for jab? A hilarious, delirious tangle of masquerades and misdirection plays out against a backdrop of beach boardwalks and rock ’n’ roll. And in the end, the surprising love story dares to ask what roles we play . . . and, underneath, who we really are.

Category: Arts/Entertainment
Cost: Varies
Phone: 800-219-8161
Venue website: www.osfashland.org

The Unfortunates

15 S Pioneer St
Ashland
Sunday, May 19, 2013, 1:30 – 4pm

Don’t lose the song

A musical pilgrimage through uniquely American genres delivers five prisoners to salvation — or at least keeps the terror at bay. Facing an uncertain end, they bring to life the story of Big Joe, a tough bartender who risks everything to save the armless courtesan Rae from a deadly plague. Combining the heat of a gospel revival with the sweet sorrow of the blues, "The Unfortunates" convinces us that any great challenge can be faced with dignity, grace, and compassion.

Category: Arts/Entertainment
Cost: Varies
Phone: 800-219-8161
Venue website: www.osfashland.org

Camelot Theatre Presents Neil Simon's 45 Seconds from Broadway

Camelot Theatre
101 Talent Avenue
Talent, OR 97540
Sunday, May 19, 2013, 8 – 10pm

Camelot Theatre Company opens its second play of the season, “45 Seconds from Broadway,” a heart-warming comedy that takes us behind the scenes in the entertainment world, this time near the heart of New York City’s theatre district. Set in the Polish Tea Room, the nickname the theater community has given to the thoroughly unpretentious coffee shop of the Hotel Edison on W. 47th St. long ago, Broadway theatre personalities—both washed-up and on-the-rise—gather to schmooze even as they lose. This touching valentine to New York explores the foibles and the funny in the human comedy.

Category: Arts/Entertainment
Cost: General Admission Tickets $24, Senior/.Student Discount $22 (excluding Sundays), Reserved Seating +$2 per ticket, Box Office Transaction Fee $4 per transaction
Reservations: Call the Box Office, open Monday - Saturday from 12:00 Noon to 5pm or visit our website at www.camelottheatre.org
Phone: 541-535-5250
Email: boxoffice@camelottheatre.org
Ticket Web Link: boxoffice.printtixusa.com…
Ticket Phone: 541-535-5250
Venue website: www.camelottheatre.org
Artist/event website: www.camelottheatre.org…

The Taming of the Shrew

15 S Pioneer St
Ashland
Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 1:30 – 4pm

Ashland
Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 8 – 10:30pm

Two Trains Running

15 S Pioneer St
Ashland
Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 8 – 10:30pm

At the crossroads of a revolution

It’s 1969, and change is in the air. But for the owner of a threadbare diner in a dying Pittsburgh neighborhood, the civil rights movement may just be an impractical dream. Torn between whether to gamble on an urban-renewal buyout or sell his building to a predatory businessman, he finds himself caught between idealism and brutal reality. August Wilson’s searing portrait of African-American life in the ’60s tells a complex story of the inner lives of ordinary people at an explosive turning point in American history.

Category: Arts/Entertainment
Cost: Varies
Phone: 800-219-8161
Venue website: www.osfashland.org

ScienceWorks PubTalk: Canary in the Coal Mine

The Playwright Public House
258 A St
Ashland, OR
Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 8 – 10pm

ScienceWorks presents its second Pub Talk, Canary in the Coal Mine, at The Playwright Public House in Ashland on May 21 at 8pm.
Migratory birds can tell us about the health of our planet. Changes in populations of birds monitored here in Southern Oregon during their annual migration provide surprising global insights. In this talk, John Alexander, Executive Director of the Klamath Bird Observatory (KBO), will review the history of conservation policy in the United States, summarize the state of the birds in our nation, and discuss how KBO improves conservation in our own backyard, the Klamath-Siskiyou Bioregion. He will also unveil Avian Knowledge Northwest, a new state-of-the-art decision support system, and talk about how you can contribute to bird conservation efforts in the Klamath-Siskiyou Bioregion.
My Fair Lady

15 S Pioneer St
Ashland
Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 1:30 – 4pm

The perfect musical

Professor Henry Higgins loves language. Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle yearns to speak like a lady. Sparks fly when his curiosity and her passionate determination launch a daring social experiment designed to turn a lower-class ugly duckling into a high-society swan—with unexpected results for both of them. Lerner and Loewe’s effervescent adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion is one of the most exquisite musicals ever written. This intimate, two-piano version, approved by composer Frederick Loewe, promises to illuminate the story in ways you haven’t heard before.

Category: Arts/Entertainment
Cost: Varies
Phone: 800-219-8161
Venue website: www.osfashland.org

Camelot Theatre Presents Neil Simon's 45 Seconds from Broadway

Camelot Theatre
101 Talent Avenue
Talent, OR 97540
Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 8 – 10pm

More info: www.camelottheatre.org…

Life with them in their tiny tenement apartment is unbearable until a kindly suitor appears and seems to offer Blanche a ticket to a better life. But Stanley, bristling at Blanche’s high-handed dismissal of him, sets out to dismantle her genteel façade, hurtling them toward an epic battle in Williams’ Pulitzer Prize–winning classic.

Category: Arts/Entertainment
Cost: Varies
Phone: 800-219-8161
Venue website: www.osfashland.org

King Lear

15 S Pioneer St
Ashland
Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 8 – 10:30pm

Ambition is thicker than blood

King Lear is ready to turn his realm over to his three daughters. His plan is simple: Give the biggest piece to the daughter who loves him most. But honeyed words and hubris blind Lear to the true motives of those around him, plunging king and kingdom into a hell of treachery, madness and unspeakable acts—with consequences that reveal the worst and best in human nature.

This contemporary staging of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy features actors Jack Willis and Michael Winters playing Lear at alternating performances

Category: Arts/Entertainment
Cost: Varies
Phone: 800-219-8161
Venue website: www.osfashland.org

The Taming of the Shrew

15 S Pioneer St
Ashland
Thursday, May 23, 2013, 1:30 – 4pm

Camelot Theatre Presents Neil Simon's 45 Seconds from Broadway

Camelot Theatre
101 Talent Avenue
Talent, OR 97540
Thursday, May 23, 2013, 8 – 10pm

More info: www.camelottheatre.org…
