The LHC experiments have adopted now diamond detectors as e.g. beam monitors, and there are new ideas to use 3D detectors made out of diamond to push the radiation hardness even further. The UK has a long tradition in being leading in the field of 3D detectors (Silicon), synthetic diamond (manufactured by element six) and has various activities on diamond detectors.

The half day meeting is intended to bring together the UK groups interested in diamond detector research for HEP experiments and other applications (synchrotron beam monitoring, radiation therapy beam monitors), with experts in the 3D silicon field, and to discuss recent progress in the field of 3D diamond detectors.

The workshop will include a full day joint session with the UK Radiofrequency Methods for the Detection of Explosives (RFDEX) Meeting on Thursday 11 July.

The aim of the RFDEX meeting is to introduce the detection of explosives using magnetic resonance methods to the wider UK magnetic resonance community, with talks on definitions and requirements in the field of explosives detection, past and current collaborative projects incorporating magnetic resonance methods, sources of funding, and current research in this field.

Representatives of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) will be on hand to put all of this into a UK context.

The organisers believe that the day will be beneficial to anyone in the UK magnetic resonance community interested in seeing if there is scope to apply their research interests to the detection of explosives.

RFDEX attendees will also be encouraged to submit papers on relevant topics for inclusion in the meeting.

There is no registration fee, but attendees are asked to see to their own accommodation and travel.

The meeting provides an overview of already existing experiments and theoretical work going on in the UK on the low-energy frontier. Additional emphasis is to introduce research that is not currently operating in the low-energy region, but can either bring new perspectives to it, or support already existing activities.

An IOP HEPP half-day meeting on new particle searches at the low-energy frontier.

Extensions of the Standard Model (SM) predict the existence of particles which have only weak interactions with the SM particles. Some of these particles such as axions, axion like particles (ALPs) and hidden gauge bosons (Hidden Sector Photons, HSP) may have masses in the sub-eV region. These Weakly Interacting sub-eV Particles (WISPs) can be searched for both directly and indirectly in small-scale experiments utilizing existing technologies.
