16th Annual Raspberry Festival – August 3, 2008

COTTONWOOD, ID – On August 3, 2008 the 16th Annual Raspberry Festival opens a full year of Centennial celebrations for the Benedictine Sisters at the Monastery of St. Gertrude, 465 Keuterville Road in Cottonwood, Idaho. A benefit for the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude, this fun-filled, family-focused day features a new, commemorative display at the Museum, car show, quilt show, arts and crafts fair, live entertainment, cultural and craft demonstrations, raffle, silent auction, raspberry products, Museum visits, Chapel tours and food galore. New this year is an all-day Kids Carnival with eight different games sure to attract children of all ages. This is a festival and day you will not want to miss.

From 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. a gut-busting cowboy breakfast is served outside the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude with pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee in abundant supply. Everyone is invited to this feed.

For those who enjoy a good morning workout, try the 5K (3.1 miles) Shortcake Walk/Run and 10K (6.2 miles) Raspberry Fun Run. This event begins outside the museum and follows a pleasant, paved route to the small village of Keuterville and back. The course is on a peaceful country road with views of the Seven Devils Mountains, the breaks of the Salmon River, the Buffalo Hump Wilderness Area and the Camas Prairie, making it one of the most scenic runs/walks in Idaho. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. and includes a commemorative t-shirt along with refreshments at the end. Register online at www.signmeup.com/61124.

The arts and crafts fair begins at 9:00 a.m. on the Monastery lawn and is growing every year with more than 40 booths of vendors selling a variety of wares. The rest of the festival offers live music presented both inside the gymnasium of Prairie High School and on the lawn of the Monastery. The Show ‘n Shine Car Show continues to add more vehicles with makes and models spanning the years 1920 to 1978. Cultural demonstrations are featured in the gym and outside. All food venues are in the gymnasium. Don’t miss our famous raspberry shortcake and BBQ beef sandwiches.

A non-juried quilt display will be held in Spirit Center (next to the museum). This location provides ground-floor access to the show for everyone. Tours of the historic Monastery Chapel will occur throughout the day and the Museum is open for visits.

The Grand Prize raffle is another festival highlight. Prizes include: $500 in cash; $200 in cash; a hand-embroidered tablecloth (70”x 87”); and a petite quilt, (“Circles” pattern) donated by M.O.M.S. of Meridian, Idaho. Winning tickets will be drawn at about 3:30 p.m.

The Raspberry Festival is receiving more notice and attention every year. You are invited to become a part of this exciting day on the Camas Prairie. Last year over 2,000 people participated in and enjoyed this special event. We hope to break that attendance record this year.

All proceeds from Raspberry Festival benefit the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude.
