Macculloch Hall in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee, presents the exhibit, “Gone for a Soldier:” Jerseymen in the Civil War. Until now, many of the stories of the major contributions of Jerseymen to the Civil War effort have remained untold. The exhibit will make a major contribution toward telling these stories and bring together for the first time nearly 200 objects from the Civil War from nearly 30 museums, historical societies, and private collections. Throughout the course of the exhibit, the museum will offer related programs, including lectures, book signings, and family-friendly events. Program announcements will be posted on the museum’s website and Facebook page.
The museum will be closed on Easter Sunday and the Sunday following Memorial Day.

This display of Civil War history complements the current large gallery exhibit “Gone for a Soldier:” Jerseymen in the Civil War. Presented in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee (NJCWSC) the exhibit brings together for the first time about two hundred objects from the Civil War from nearly thirty museums, historical societies, and private collections.

The Museum is open to tour the house and view exhibits on Wed., Thurs. & Sun. from 1 to 4 p.m. Macculloch Hall Historical Museum is a nonprofit educational affiliate of the W. Parsons Todd Foundation.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, during the month of February Macculloch Hall Historical Museum will display a rarely seen image created by political cartoonist Thomas Nast. The engraving titled “St. Valentines-Day” can be seen hanging in the center hall of the Museum. The image was published on the cover of Hearth and Home: For the Farm, Garden, And Fireside weekly periodical on February 13, 1869. The weekly was brand new when Nast’s illustration was published; the first issue was printed only seven weeks earlier on December 26, 1868. During his career, Nast drew images for over 65 different periodicals.

The engraving titled “St. Valentines-Day” can be seen hanging in the center hall of the Museum. The image was published on the cover of Hearth and Home: For the Farm, Garden, And Fireside weekly periodical on February 13, 1869. The weekly was brand new when Nast’s illustration was published; the first issue was printed only seven weeks earlier on December 26, 1868. During his career, Nast drew images for over 65 different periodicals.

Opening tonight are The Folk Goddesses, a band that John Platt of WFUV referred to as "Modern Man on Estrogen." Macculloch Hall in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee, presents the exhibit, “Gone for a Soldier:” Jerseymen in the Civil War. Until now, many of the stories of the major contributions of Jerseymen to the Civil War effort have remained untold. The exhibit will make a major contribution toward telling these stories and bring together for the first time nearly 200 objects from the Civil War from nearly 30 museums, historical societies, and private collections. Throughout the course of the exhibit, the museum will offer related programs, including lectures, book signings, and family-friendly events. Program announcements will be posted on the museum’s website and Facebook page.
The museum will be closed on Easter Sunday and the Sunday following Memorial Day.

Beginning Wednesday February 1st visitors can view American Civil War patriotic covers on display in the center hall of Macculloch Hall. These envelopes bear patriotic illustrations and messages.

This display of Civil War history complements the current large gallery exhibit “Gone for a Soldier:” Jerseymen in the Civil War. Presented in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee (NJCWSC) the exhibit brings together for the first time about two hundred objects from the Civil War from nearly thirty museums, historical societies, and private collections.

The Museum is open to tour the house and view exhibits on Wed., Thurs. & Sun. from 1 to 4 p.m. Macculloch Hall Historical Museum is a nonprofit educational affiliate of the W. Parsons Todd Foundation.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, during the month of February Macculloch Hall Historical Museum will display a rarely seen image created by political cartoonist Thomas Nast. The engraving titled “St. Valentines-Day” can be seen hanging in the center hall of the Museum. The image was published on the cover of Hearth and Home: For the Farm, Garden, And Fireside weekly periodical on February 13, 1869. The weekly was brand new when Nast’s illustration was published; the first issue was printed only seven weeks earlier on December 26, 1868. During his career, Nast drew images for over 65 different periodicals.

Macculloch Hall in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee, presents the exhibit, “Gone for a Soldier:” Jerseymen in the Civil War. Until now, many of the stories of the major contributions of Jerseymen to the Civil War effort have remained untold. The exhibit will make a major contribution toward telling these stories and bring together for the first time nearly 200 objects from the Civil War from nearly 30 museums, historical societies, and private collections. Throughout the course of the exhibit, the museum will offer related programs, including lectures, book signings, and family-friendly events. Program announcements will be posted on the museum’s website and Facebook page.
The museum will be closed on Easter Sunday and the Sunday following Memorial Day.

Cost: The last tickets for admission are sold at 3 p.m. Admission: Adults $8; Seniors & Students $6; Children 6 – 12 $4.

Beginning Wednesday February 1st visitors can view American Civil War patriotic covers on display in the center hall of Macculloch Hall. These envelopes bear patriotic illustrations and messages.

This display of Civil War history complements the current large gallery exhibit “Gone for a Soldier:” Jerseymen in the Civil War. Presented in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee (NJCWSC) the exhibit brings together for the first time about two hundred objects from the Civil War from nearly thirty museums, historical societies, and private collections.

The Museum is open to tour the house and view exhibits on Wed., Thurs. & Sun. from 1 to 4 p.m. Macculloch Hall Historical Museum is a nonprofit educational affiliate of the W. Parsons Todd Foundation.

Junior Master Gardeners Program

The Junior Master Gardener program returns for its 6th year at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum. This program for students in grade three through five is a school-year long, intensive gardening and horticulture science program that includes inside and outside time (all year long!) as well as hands-on planting, propagation, and experiments. This year’s JMG program will focus on all kinds of plants, especially vegetables -- year-round planting, seed collecting, growing and possibly even eating a few new ones along the way.

Macculloch Hall in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee, presents the exhibit, “Gone for a Soldier:” Jerseymen in the Civil War. Until now, many of the stories of the major contributions of Jerseymen to the Civil War effort have remained untold. The exhibit will make a major contribution toward telling these stories and bring together for the first time nearly 200 objects from the Civil War from nearly 30 museums, historical societies, and private collections. Throughout the course of the exhibit, the museum will offer related programs, including lectures, book signings, and family-friendly events. Program announcements will be posted on the museum’s website and Facebook page.
The museum will be closed on Easter Sunday and the Sunday following Memorial Day.

Cost: The last tickets for admission are sold at 3 p.m. Admission: Adults $8; Seniors & Students $6; Children 6 – 12 $4.

Beginning Wednesday February 1st visitors can view American Civil War patriotic covers on display in the center hall of Macculloch Hall. These envelopes bear patriotic illustrations and messages.

This display of Civil War history complements the current large gallery exhibit “Gone for a Soldier:” Jerseymen in the Civil War. Presented in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee (NJCWSC) the exhibit brings together for the first time about two hundred objects from the Civil War from nearly thirty museums, historical societies, and private collections.

The Museum is open to tour the house and view exhibits on Wed., Thurs. & Sun. from 1 to 4 p.m. Macculloch Hall Historical Museum is a nonprofit educational affiliate of the W. Parsons Todd Foundation.

Until now, many of the stories of the major contributions of Jerseymen to the Civil War effort have remained untold. The exhibit will make a major contribution toward telling these stories and bring together for the first time nearly 200 objects from the Civil War from nearly 30 museums, historical societies, and private collections. Throughout the course of the exhibit, the museum will offer related programs, including lectures, book signings, and family-friendly events. Program announcements will be posted on the museum’s website and Facebook page.
The museum will be closed on Easter Sunday and the Sunday following Memorial Day.

Presented in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee (NJCWSC) the exhibit brings together for the first time about two hundred objects from the Civil War from nearly thirty museums, historical societies, and private collections.

Macculloch Hall Historical Museum presents a Civil War Lecture Series in conjunction with the exhibit "Gone for a Soldier." Jerseymen in the Civil War. It is estimated that over 500 women fought as soldiers in the Civil War with their sex disguised. Dr. Martin will discus...s the careers of the more famous examples, as well as some of the more well-known female nurses and spies on both sides. He will also include mention of heroic examples from New Jersey, along with an overview of the position of women in contemporary Victorian society.
All lectures start at 7pm (tickets available from 6:30pm)
Held at the Cincinnati Masonic Lodge No. 3, 39 Maple Avenue (one block from the museum)
Extended exhibit hours on lecture nights, the museum will be open from 1pm - 6:30pm.

Until now, many of the stories of the major contributions of Jerseymen to the Civil War effort have remained untold. The exhibit will make a major contribution toward telling these stories and bring together for the first time nearly 200 objects from the Civil War from nearly 30 museums, historical societies, and private collections. Throughout the course of the exhibit, the museum will offer related programs, including lectures, book signings, and family-friendly events. Beginning Wednesday February 1st visitors can view American Civil War patriotic covers on display in the center hall of Macculloch Hall. These envelopes bear patriotic illustrations and messages.

This display of Civil War history complements the current large gallery exhibit “Gone for a Soldier:” Jerseymen in the Civil War. Presented in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee (NJCWSC) the exhibit brings together for the first time about two hundred objects from the Civil War from nearly thirty museums, historical societies, and private collections.

The Museum is open to tour the house and view exhibits on Wed., Thurs. & Sun. from 1 to 4 p.m. Macculloch Hall Historical Museum is a nonprofit educational affiliate of the W. Parsons Todd Foundation.

Macculloch Hall in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee, presents the exhibit, “Gone for a Soldier:” Jerseymen in the Civil War. Until now, many of the stories of the major contributions of Jerseymen to the Civil War effort have remained untold. The exhibit will make a major contribution toward telling these stories and bring together for the first time nearly 200 objects from the Civil War from nearly 30 museums, historical societies, and private collections. Throughout the course of the exhibit, the museum will offer related programs, including lectures, book signings, and family-friendly events. Program announcements will be posted on the museum’s website and Facebook page.
The museum will be closed on Easter Sunday and the Sunday following Memorial Day.

Cost: The last tickets for admission are sold at 3 p.m. Admission: Adults $8; Seniors & Students $6; Children 6 – 12 $4.

Macculloch Hall in partnership with the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee, presents the exhibit, “Gone for a Soldier:” Jerseymen in the Civil War. Until now, many of the stories of the major contributions of Jerseymen to the Civil War effort have remained untold. The exhibit will make a major contribution toward telling these stories and bring together for the first time nearly 200 objects from the Civil War from nearly 30 museums, historical societies, and private collections. Throughout the course of the exhibit, the museum will offer related programs, including lectures, book signings, and family-friendly events. Program announcements will be posted on the museum’s website and Facebook page.
The museum will be closed on Easter Sunday and the Sunday following Memorial Day.

Cost: The last tickets for admission are sold at 3 p.m. Admission: Adults $8; Seniors & Students $6; Children 6 – 12 $4.

The workshops are recommended for children 7 years old and older.

Discover what it was like for the New Jersey soldier while visiting the exhibit “Gone for a Soldier”: Jerseymen in the Civil War. Hands-on activities include using wig-wag signal flags to communicate, examining letters sent to and from camp during the war, and listening to music from camp including fife, drum and bugle.
