DESCRIPTION:TOUR DE FLOYD POSTER DESIGN COMPETITION\n\nFloyd\, VA.   The
  Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation is partnering with The Jacksonville Cente
 r for the Arts in Floyd to hold a Poster Design Competition for the 3rd 
 Annual Tour de Floyd Bicycle Event.  This year’s cycling event will be h
 eld on Saturday\, May 16\, 2009.\n \nA $200 cash award will be presented
  to the person who submits the winning design for the 2009 event poster.
   The entry deadline for the poster design is 4:00pm\, Friday\, January 
 30\, 2009.\n \nThe entry requirements for the poster design are as follo
 ws:\n4 color image\; images should be produced in 8 ½ x 14 format\; all 
 images should be available on request electronically and on a disk\; min
 imum 300 dpi resolution\; and available in hi-res TIFF or PDF version. I
 mages should be delivered to The Jacksonville Center no later than 4:00p
 m\, Friday\, January 30\, 2009\, either in person\, by mail to 220 Parkw
 ay Lane South\, Suite 1\, Floyd\, VA 24091 or by email to info@jacksonvi
 llecenter.org.\n \nEntries will be displayed in The Jacksonville Center 
 Breezeway Exhibit Space\nspace during the month of February. A judging p

DESCRIPTION:The Eleanor D. Wilson Museum at Hollins University presents 
 Taliaferro Logan: Georgianna Waxes\, opening January 8\, 2009. This site
 -specific encaustic installation by nationally known artist Taliaferro L
 ogan is inspired by the book Georgianna written by the artist’s grandmot
 her\, Fay L. Logan. Loosely written as a fictional saga set in the Roano
 ke Valley during the early part of the 20th century\, the book and subse
 quent exhibition explore a family’s confessional tale of tragedy and red
 emption that blurs the lines between history and fiction. The Eleanor D.
  Wilson Museum is the first to premiere this new body of work\, and the 
 exhibition is curated by Amy Moorefield\, Director of the Museum. There 
 will be an opening reception and book signing with the author at 6:00 pm
  on Thursday\, January 8\, and a lecture by the artist on Wednesday\, Ja
 nuary 14 at 10:00 am in the RIchard Wethrill Visual Arts Center\, Room 1
 19. Both events are free and open to the public.

DESCRIPTION:The Eleanor D. Wilson Museum at Hollins University presents 
 Taliaferro Logan: Georgianna Waxes\, opening January 8\, 2009. This site
 -specific encaustic installation by nationally known artist Taliaferro L
 ogan is inspired by the book Georgianna written by the artist’s grandmot
 her\, Fay L. Logan. Loosely written as a fictional saga set in the Roano
 ke Valley during the early part of the 20th century\, the book and subse
 quent exhibition explore a family’s confessional tale of tragedy and red
 emption that blurs the lines between history and fiction. The Eleanor D.
  Wilson Museum is the first to premiere this new body of work\, and the 
 exhibition is curated by Amy Moorefield\, Director of the Museum. There 
 will be an opening reception and book signing with the author at 6:00 pm
  on Thursday\, January 8\, and a lecture by the artist on Wednesday\, Ja
 nuary 14 at 10:00 am in the RIchard Wethrill Visual Arts Center\, Room 1
 19. Both events are free and open to the public.
