couraging swarming\, swarm catching and hiving\, management\, and basica
lly expanding the apiary with naturally raised queens. Discussion will a

permitted. The care of swarms and splits throughout spring and summer wi

the workshop for the real experience! \n\nSituated in Floyd\, VA in the
Blue Ridge Mountains\, the Spikenard Farms Honeybee Sanctuary aims to r
estore the health and vitality of the honeybee worldwide. Since founding
Spikenard Farm in 2006\, Gunther Hauk and his wife Vivian have been act

DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar for the Wharton Memorial Foundation / Bow
er Center for the Arts’ 4th Annual Louisiana Crawfish Festival\, generou
sly sponsored by Dr. John Bower and Edna Curry. Join us for live Zydeco
music and the party of the year in Bedford! Just as last year the band
not only gives us great sound\, but instructs in Cajun dancing as well.
This year the band will be hanging around later.\n\nThe food is fabulou
s and a rare treat in these parts… large freshwater crawfish are brought
to Bedford live and boiled on the spot… chicken gumbo and red beans & r
ice are made from old Louisiana recipes… crawfish etouffe\, a dish found
in both Cajun and Creole cuisine\, is most popular in New Orleans and i
n the bayou country of the southernmost half of Louisiana. The base of a
n étouffée is a dark roux. As in many Louisiana dishes\, onions\, green
peppers and celery (a combination often referred to as the holy trinity)
are added to the roux. The étouffée is usually seasoned with cayenne pe
 pper\, white pepper\, fresh garlic\, fresh parsley\, salt\, sometimes pa
prika\, and\, depending on the chef\, a host of other seasonings! Last b
ut not least\, save room for corn on the cob!\nIn case of rain… the fest
ival will be held in the old Murray Bolling building at 317 Jackson Stre
et… just across the street from Bower Center and behind Dave’s Auto.

na side of things\, the Black Lillies feature a fresh blend of bluegrass
 \, jazz\, rock\, country\, and blues\, with just a touch of string band
Appalachia. Their album\, Whiskey Angel\, was independently released by
the band in the spring of 2009 and quickly garnered positive critical at
tention\, regular play on American stations\, and also brought the band
a management and booking deal. A second album in 2010 was funded through
fan sponsorships sold through the band's website. 100 Miles of Wreckage
appeared in the spring of 2011\, again to positive reviews\, and quickl
y entered the national Americana charts.\n\n“I prefer to think of it in
terms of Southern music\,” says drummer Jamie Cook. “That tradition of w
hiskey-steeped balance. Like Hank Williams\, it’s the dichotomy of Satur
day night and Sunday morning: You can do what you want on Saturday as lo
ng as you can support it on Sunday. And I think there’s definitely both
sides of that on the album.”\n\nPresented by GJ Productions 540-589-0546
