A Special Project!
The Spiritual Parenting Covenant Group is partnering with the Arts and Crafts Fair organizers

They will "pay" with tickets allotted ahead of time. The store will be open on Saturday, Nov. 7, as part of our Arts and Crafts Fall Festival!

The Odyssey AR Rogaine is a 24 or 8 hour race in which competitors travel on foot while orienteering with map and compass from checkpoint to checkpoint. The AR Rogaine will be like an orienteering course that you would see in an adventure race were teams will plot UTMs for each of the locations of the checkpoints on their 1:24,000 scale map. Each checkpoint will have a point value.

The orienteering course will be divided into four zones. Each team/soloist will draw a number out of a hat to determine which zone they will start in. At the race start, teams will have a 1:24,000 scale topographic map of the park, the UTm coordinates of the checkpoints for their first zone and will plot the given UTM coordinates. They will then set off on foot to their first zone of the course. There will be numerous checkpoints in each zone with different point values. The ones closest to headquarters will have a lower point value and the ones further away and in more difficult to find locations will have a higher value. Competitors will have a limited amount of time in each zone, and will be required to check in at headquarters for safety before venturing into the next zone. For every minute they come in after the time limit, they will be deducted 10 points. At headquarters, they will get a new set of UTM coordinates for the next zone in which they are acquiring points. For every minute they come in after the time limit, they will be deducted a point. The winner will be determined by the highest score in combination with the lowest time.

The Appalachian Trail ascends the northern end of Pearis Mountain. At the top, the Angels Rest Trail (a blue-blazed trail) leads 50 yards to view rock, with views of the New River Valley, Pearisburg, and Peters Mountain on the left; Butt Mountain at the center right; and Bald Knob at the extreme right. The trail passes through many thickets of rhododendron and azalea on top of the mountain. Follow the trail around the edge of Pearis Mountain to a rock ledge overlooking Wilburn Valley and the mountains to the east.

Trail Information:
* Difficulty: Very Steep Climb
* Length: 1.5 Miles One Way (3.0 miles total)
* Elevation: 2000-3550 Feet
* Location: Giles County Access: From Blacksburg, follow VA 460 west to VA 100 at Pearisburg. Turn right onto Johnston Avenue (Beside the Dairy Queen). Take the next right onto VA 634 (Morris Avenue) and follow approximately 1/2 mile to where the Appalachian Trail crosses VA 634. There is limited roadside parking.

A new play by Ed Falco, Directed by David Johnson, Featuring Lucinda McDermott, Susanna Rinehart, Doug Chancey, and Earl Kingston

Synopsis: The Center is a play about counselors, chaos, and black snow. It is about the chaos at the heart of everything, which is to say the disorder that always precedes and follows any momentary order. Something terrible has happened at a place referred to in the play only as The Center, and it has had a significant effect on the lives of all the characters. Whatever happened, though never specified, clearly reminds of the Murrah Building bombing on April 19, 1995. Two of the characters, Terry and Allen, seem to know something about the event. A suspect seems to still be at large. The two other characters are Terry's and Allen's counselors, Ursula and Vincent, and they seem to be trying to figure out what Terry and Allen know. The play itself, in its structure and design, embodies some of the chaos it is exploring. Sometimes funny, sometimes not so funny, The Center asks the audience to step into the shadows and look around.
