"Through the Woods" by Clare Rojas

SCAD Exhibitions
1600 Peachtree St.
Atlanta, GA 30309
Ongoing through Friday, April 2, 2010

Contemporary artist Clare Rojas brings a unique collection of illustrations to the ACA Gallery of SCAD Atlanta in an exhibition titled “Through the Woods.” Combining elements of allegory, folklore and caricature, the provocative illustrations shift male, female, natural and animal roles, often depicting subjects caught in disturbing, confusing or compromising situations. Planes and scale seem to shift while subjects are rendered as naked, grotesque or macabre. Still, the works remain refreshingly playful thanks to the artist’s whimsical, folk art style.

City/State: Atlanta, Georgia
Art Gallery: ACA Gallery of SCAD Atlanta
Artist: Clare Rojas
Contact Number: (404) 815-2931
More info: www.scadexhibitions.com

"Rock Paper Scissors," A 30-Year Retrospective by Steven Sachs

Barbara Archer Gallery
280 Elizabeth St. #A012
Atlanta, GA 30307
Friday, March 26, 7pm – Saturday, May 8, 2010, 5pm

“Rock Paper Scissors,” a 30-year retrospective of Atlantan Steven Sachs’ work, continues at Barbara Archer Gallery. The paintings and found-object sculptures of this prolific local, who has remained largely under the radar while maintaining a strong artistic influence, straddle the line between modern and folk art for a powerful visual dialogue. Through 3/13. Opening this month, the intensely ordered, radial forms of Tray Dugas mesmerize not only in their geometry and organization but also their materials: vintage cigar and beer
labels.

City/State: Atlanta, Georgia
Art Gallery: Barbara Archer Gallery
Artist: Steven Sachs
Contact Number: (404) 523-1845
More info: www.barbaraarcher.com

Return to Nature: New Paintings by Michael Abrams

1000 Marietta Street, Suite 208
Atlanta, GA 30318
Friday, March 26, 2010, 7 – 10pm

EMILY AMY GALLERY is pleased to present our second exhibition of the 2010 season, "Return to Nature: New Paintings by Michael Abrams." Growing up in Rensselear County in upstate New York would eventually have a profound influence on Michael Abrams’ artistic career, although he was not aware of it then. The views out his childhood bedroom window of the Hudson River Valley became deeply engrained in his subconscious and have since become the predominant subject of his work. The landscapes are loosely based on these Hudson River Valley vistas he remembers but are also partially fabricated in his imagination. The combination makes for atmospheric, luminescent and ethereal paintings created from layering glazes from semi-transparent to opaque. The result is a beautifully rendered edenic nature of Abrams’ own personal invention.

City/State: Atlanta, Georgia
Art Gallery: Emily Amy Gallery
Artist: Michael Abrams
Contact Number: (404) 877-5626
More info: www.emilyamygallery.com
