Curated by Vitra Design Museum and on view at the Museum of Design Atlanta, a retrospective of work by Hungarian talent Marcel Breuer focuses equally on the design and architectural aspects of his career (including his work on the Atlanta Public Library). Known for developing iconic furniture such as the Wassily chair, and appreciated for his overall contributions to interior design, Breuer also established an extensive architectural portfolio during the latter half of his life which is chronicled in drawings, ﬂoor plans, photographs, models and video projections. This exhibit will pay tribute to the revered designer by allowing the public to reassess his work and its place in modern architecture.

Everard and Company is pleased to present their online auction of ‘Fine Art and Antiques From The Ron Strahan Estate and Various Owners’. The auction will take place from October 30th through November 19th at www.igavel.com.

The auction features property from the estate of Ron Strahan, a prominent Savannah art patron and collector. His diverse collection features works that run the gamut from Southern art, to paintings by Savannah College of Art and Design alumni, to 19th and early 20th century watercolors and oils. Mr. Strahan’s property also includes ceramics and porcelain, Tramp art, architectural elements, Venetian and cut glass, as well as furniture, frames, easels, and other decorative articles from Asia, South America and Europe.

Other auction highlights include a fine 19th century mahogany secretary being deaccessioned from the Davenport House in Savannah, an early 19th century American cherrywood tall chest of drawers, an 18th century George III mahogany concertina action games table, silver and objects of vertu from Gorham, Tiffany and Cartier, coin silver, Venetian glass, Georgian furniture, pewter, and many interesting group lots. Also on offer are works by Myrtle Jones, Pablo Picasso, Paul Stone, and many other artists.

A preview will take place on November 13th and 14th at 2436 Waters Avenue from 10am to 4pm. The sale can also be viewed by appointment. Bidding will end on November 19th.

From the winding wooded lanes of Connecticut Back Country, where the fabled estates of Fairfield County co-exist with historic Colonial homes, came the inspiration for “Fairfield,” the 1795 West Wesley Road residence designed by William T. Baker.

Transcending Vision: American Impressionism 1870–1940 explores both the dissemination of Impressionism from its French roots into the American idiom and its reinterpretation of American landscape painting. The more than 120 important masterpieces in the exhibition, by a diverse group of more than 75 artists such as Childe Hassam, Arthur Wesley Dow, Robert Spencer and others, trace not only the development of Impressionism in the United States but also the development of a truly American style of painting. Members of the first generation of American painters to absorb the technique, brighter palette and subject matter of Impressionism from their French counterparts. These artists, considered rebellious in their time, painted atmospheric landscapes, park and beach scenes, urban views and charming interiors, with particular interest in optical effects, light and the different seasons.

Tuesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Admission:$13 for adults, $10 for seniors, $10 for youths ages 6-17, and children under 6 are free.

"Color & Line": Introducing Loretta Paraguassu

"Color and Line" is an exhibit of Loretta Paraguassu's work that goes beyond the limits of her dramatic two-dimensional paintings. Her opening at the Timothy Michael Gallery, located at 39 Oak St. in Roswell, is Saturday, November 14, 6:30-9 p.m., and will also include a fashion show of her original designs created with artist Amandine Drouet.

"I love using intense color and combining it with the elegance of line," Paraguassu says. "It doesn't matter if I'm using watercolor or oils. I enjoy them both, but the last thing I want to do is create something that just lies on the paper or canvas and is totally boring. I'd rather it were challenging or intense. Pretty is just not enough."

High Arts Day: Fashion, Art & Home Decor

At 8 a.m. on November 16, those attending the 14th annual High Arts Day will gather at Saks Fifth Avenue for coffee and private shopping while viewing the latest fashion trends and visiting with new and old friends. Next on the agenda is a motor coach ride from Phipps Plaza to tour and visit two distinguished Atlanta homes filled with fabulous works of art and antiques. The activities continue when our patrons arrive at the High Museum of Art and shop at a trunk show that includes exquisite jewelry by Gogo Ferguson. Also available for purchase will be home goods from Brookhaven’s new design boutique, The Mercantile, purses from Timmy Woods, cashmere wraps from Magaschoni, wearable art from Elements of Style, and leather belts from Beehive by megandcait. The tables in the Wieland Pavilion Grand Lobby will be set for lunch and “garnished” with original sculpture and paintings created by local artists. A silent auction will offer many beautiful pieces for purchase, including Atlanta-based sculptor David Landis’s cast-bronze Standing Figure Study with Fish. David’s commissions include a memorial sculpture to 3,000 victims of a fire in Toulouse, France, and a stainless steel piece for US Bancorp in Minneapolis.
