Closing Statements

First United Methodist Church
1838 SW Jefferson St
Portland
Friday, March 19, 2010, 7:30 – 10pm

Type of Event: Arts
Event Description: This concert pairs the very last works by Bartók and Tchaikovsky, though they are very different in outlook and tone. The Third Piano Concerto was written while the Hungarian composer was living in New York although Bartok died just before he finished the orchestration of the Piano Concerto’s finale. Judy Park makes a welcome return to Portland from the Rice to play this 20th century gem. Tchaikovsky, it seems, was at his happiest when sad! The composer died in a mysterious fashion just days after the premiere of his melancholic Pathétique Symphony.
Cost: $30/adult; $25/senior; $10/student; $5/child
Ticket Phone: 503-234-4077
Ticket Web Link: www.columbiasymphony.org
More info: www.columbiasymphony.org

Published in 1996, Infinite Jest offers a parodic vision of a post-modern North America in persistently creative and often dazzling prose. Noted for its technical virtuosity and ceaseless erudition, at its core Infinite Jest is a deeply humane, unforgettable exploration of our disordered culture—one of the books that matter. He teaches humanities at the Portland Waldorf High School.
Ticket Phone: 503-203-3075
Ticket Web Link: www.literary-arts.org…
More info: www.literary-arts.org…
