What is Pilates? Pronounced (Puh-LA-tees)

Evolved from techniques created byJoseph Pilates in the early 1900's in order to strengthen and lengthen muscles while integrating the mind and body. Pilates is an exercise-based system that aims to develop the body's "center" in order to create a stable core for all types of movement. Through a process of regular classes or private sessions, the body's structure realigns and a balance is achieved within the musclo-skeletal system. Eventually the body will move with maximum efficiency and minimum effort. Anyone of any age or fitness level can do Pilates. Using specially designed equipment as well as mat/floor exercises, a one hour session is designed for you to help achieve your fitness goals. The following are a few of the benefits you can expect from participating in a Pilates program.

From October 21, 2011 to May 2012, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center will proudly present “100 Years of Von Braun: His American Journey” – an awe-inspiring exhibit showcasing the life of Dr. Wernher von Braun, in honor of his 100th birthday on March 23rd, 2012.

To commemorate his lifetime of achievements, it is our privilege to give you the opportunity to take a walk in Dr. von Braun’s footsteps.

This exhibition covers Dr. von Braun’s American experience, beginning with his surrender to U.S. forces and continuing on through his passing in 1977. Learn about his many technical achievements, not only with NASA, but with the Army and private industry as well. Explore his vision through artifacts, models of various spacecraft (both real and conceptual), breathtaking photographs and artwork, and multimedia displays featuring his speeches, interviews with him, and about him.

In addition to covering the history of Dr. von Braun’s time in the U.S., the exhibit also features a unique look at some of the more personal aspects of his life, including his hobbies, his family, his celebrity status, and his daring visions of the future.

Please come visit us and let this historic exhibit take you through his “American Journey.”

Southern Comfort will present selected photographs from the Museum’s collection that underscore the rich history of the South and tell compelling stories about its unique people, places and traditions. Many were added to the collection in the 1980s and early 1990s through a series of original exhibitions curated by local photographic archivist and historian Frances Robb, wife of former Museum director David Robb. Featured artists will include William Christenberry, Kathryn Tucker Windham, Pinky Bass, James Morris, John Reese, and Caroline Davis.

As the nation’s most culturally distinct region, the American South has long been a magnet for artistic exploration and documentation. Many artists have chosen the medium of photography as a vehicle to convey their unique impressions and experiences of the region, because of the camera’s ability to so vividly record reality.

Synopsis: A witch takes baby Rapunzel from her overprotective parents and locks her away for years in a beautiful tower that has no door. Whenever the witch wants to visit, she calls for Rapunzel to let down her golden hair so that she can climb up. Observe what happens when a handsome prince tries to rescue Rapunzel in spite of a hilarious dragon who is suppose to guard her. Dramatized by Sidney Berger.

Cast Requirements: Auditions for ages 9-Adult. Dance roles, both male and female, available for ages 9-12 yrs. Roles available are Rapunzel, Witch, King, Queen, Prince and Dragon plus dancers

Preparation: Cold readings and pantomimes will be provided at time of auditions.

Production Dates: April 20-22 and 27-29, 2012 at the VBC Playhouse

Join TV Time Machine as we look at two popular TV series produced by Quinn Martin, one of the most successful television producers in Hollywood history.

“The Untouchables” starred Robert Stack as stalwart FBI agent Eliot Ness, fighting organized crime in 1930s Chicago. We’ll look at two episodes from the show’s first year produced by Quinn Martin for Desilu Productions. “The Untouchables” was aired from 1959-1963 and won six Emmys.

The Fugitive, with David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble on the run from the law for a murder he didn’t commit, was one of TV’s most popular shows from 1963-1967. The final episode, broadcast in September 1967, drew what was then the largest audience in the history of television. We’ll view two episodes including the legendary final show.

From October 21, 2011 to May 2012, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center will proudly present “100 Years of Von Braun: His American Journey” – an awe-inspiring exhibit showcasing the life of Dr. Wernher von Braun, in honor of his 100th birthday on March 23rd, 2012.

To commemorate his lifetime of achievements, it is our privilege to give you the opportunity to take a walk in Dr. von Braun’s footsteps.

This exhibition covers Dr. von Braun’s American experience, beginning with his surrender to U.S. forces and continuing on through his passing in 1977. Learn about his many technical achievements, not only with NASA, but with the Army and private industry as well. Explore his vision through artifacts, models of various spacecraft (both real and conceptual), breathtaking photographs and artwork, and multimedia displays featuring his speeches, interviews with him, and about him.

In addition to covering the history of Dr. von Braun’s time in the U.S., the exhibit also features a unique look at some of the more personal aspects of his life, including his hobbies, his family, his celebrity status, and his daring visions of the future.

Southern Comfort will present selected photographs from the Museum’s collection that underscore the rich history of the South and tell compelling stories about its unique people, places and traditions. Many were added to the collection in the 1980s and early 1990s through a series of original exhibitions curated by local photographic archivist and historian Frances Robb, wife of former Museum director David Robb. Featured artists will include William Christenberry, Kathryn Tucker Windham, Pinky Bass, James Morris, John Reese, and Caroline Davis.

As the nation’s most culturally distinct region, the American South has long been a magnet for artistic exploration and documentation. Many artists have chosen the medium of photography as a vehicle to convey their unique impressions and experiences of the region, because of the camera’s ability to so vividly record reality.
