Mindfulness cultivates a stable healing presence that benefits patients and providers alike. Mind fulness meditation techniques are widely used to manage stress\, and are especially effective at reducing the stresses of time pressure and exce ssive workload that make modern health care so difficult.
\nBut mindfulness has much more to offer heal th care providers than simple stress management. The art of healing is a s important as its science. Meditation techniques have been practiced fo r thousands of years because they cultivate presence\, empathy\, compass ion\, and connectedness in a simple and straightforward way. These exper iences have a special importance for \nhealth care providers because the y restore a component of healing that is often overlooked by our modern health care system. As we become more adept at dwelling in the living pr esence of our own experience\, we begin to connect more deeply with pati ents\, as well as coworkers and family members. Mindfulness practice pro vides a simple and practical way to recapture the calling of healing.
\nThis CME/CEU program will revie w the basics of mindfulness meditation\, and then explore how these tech niques can be used to manage stress\, enhance communication\, and promot e empathy and healing in clinical practice. Practical adaptations of min dfulness techniques will provide concrete mindfulness–based tools that c an be used to help you to reconnect with what matters most in your perso nal and professional life. Participants will be asked to make a commitme nt to practice the techniques for at least 40 minutes a day during the e ight weeks of the course.

and Movement Educator. She specializes in Yoga Therapy for Cancer and b
egan working with survivors in the Philadelphia area after her training
from Jnani Chapman\, RN at the Integral Yoga Academy in Virginia. She ha
s also trained and taught in the Vinyasa style for over seven years. As
a Swedish-based massage therapist she has cultivated\, over a sixteen- y
ear practice\, a unique style that includes Deep Tissue\, Trigger-point
\, and Reiki techniques. This bodywork is informed by her studies in medi
tation and various schools of energy cultivation and by her twenty years
of experience in contemporary dance and somatic practices. As a Movemen
t Educator she offers the workshop Movement for People with Bodies which
is designed to support the Average Joe’s physical exploration into the
body’s patterns\, its strength\, weaknesses and areas that are ready for
change. Michelle teaches contemporary dance at Bryn Mawr College. She r
eceived a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the Ohio State Univer
sity and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the University of
Texas at Austin. She is a Texas native.

s also trained and taught in the Vinyasa style for over seven years. As
a Swedish-based massage therapist she has cultivated\, over a sixteen- y
ear practice\, a unique style that includes Deep Tissue\, Trigger-point
\, and Reiki techniques. This bodywork is informed by her studies in medi
tation and various schools of energy cultivation and by her twenty years
of experience in contemporary dance and somatic practices. As a Movemen
t Educator she offers the workshop Movement for People with Bodies which
is designed to support the Average Joe’s physical exploration into the
body’s patterns\, its strength\, weaknesses and areas that are ready for
change. Michelle teaches contemporary dance at Bryn Mawr College. She r
eceived a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the Ohio State Univer
sity and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the University of
Texas at Austin. She is a Texas native.

and movements to meet individual needs for those living with cancer inc
luding anyone in active treatment. Recent research suggests Yoga may dec

ch class in the series will include learning postures and gentle movemen
ts in the chair\, breathing and relaxation techniques\, as well as image
ry and meditation. We will also discuss the physiological changes that h
appen during such practices so as to understand why they are so effectiv

ptive Yoga practices to enhance physical and emotional wellness during t

lle Stortz\, CYT\, CMT\, MFA is a Yoga Therapist\, Massage Therapist
and Movement Educator. She specializes in Yoga Therapy for Cancer and b
egan working with survivors in the Philadelphia area after her training
from Jnani Chapman\, RN at the Integral Yoga Academy in Virginia. She ha
s also trained and taught in the Vinyasa style for over seven years. As
a Swedish-based massage therapist she has cultivated\, over a sixteen- y
ear practice\, a unique style that includes Deep Tissue\, Trigger-point
\, and Reiki techniques. This bodywork is informed by her studies in medi
tation and various schools of energy cultivation and by her twenty years
of experience in contemporary dance and somatic practices. As a Movemen
t Educator she offers the workshop Movement for People with Bodies which
is designed to support the Average Joe’s physical exploration into the
body’s patterns\, its strength\, weaknesses and areas that are ready for
change. Michelle teaches contemporary dance at Bryn Mawr College. She r
eceived a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the Ohio State Univer
sity and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the University of
Texas at Austin. She is a Texas native.
