232nd Anniversary of Siege & Bombardment of Fort Mifflin

Two days of activities commemorating the historic Siege and Bombardment of Fort Mifflin in 1777. Activities start at 10 am & conclude at 4 pm each day.

Activities throughout the weekend include life in the 18th century, weapons demonstrations, and tactical demonstrations. Musket drills for the Children and a scavenger hunt. There will also be tours of the fort going over the 183 years that the Fort was used by the United States Military.

Learn what really happened at Fort Mifflin and the warfare that took place on the Delaware River in 1777. Learn how the valiant defenders of a piece of mud in the river helped save the American Army.
See re-enactors portray, American and British forces as they commemorate the largest bombardment that took place in the Delaware Valley and the entire American Revolution.

Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Shows

The high point of the year for Philadelphia-area dog lovers, The Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Shows will bring more than 150 breeds and varieties of pedigreed dogs to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA on Nov. 14 -15. After several years in different locations, this year the Dog Shows have made the Expo Center their new “dog house” for the foreseeable future.

The two Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Shows will host the Nov. 14 National Dog Show Presented by Purina®, America’s most popular televised dog event, which will again be broadcast by NBC on Thanksgiving Day. The Nov. 14-15 shows are separate, complete, all-breed, benched shows, with an expected entry of 2,000 dogs on display in the hall throughout the day. Visitors are encouraged to see the dogs up close, meet their owners and learn about the breeds.

The new Expo Center in Oaks, opened in January, is one of the largest privately owned exhibition centers on the east coast and will provide the shows with ample space for show rings, benching, demonstration events, vendors and the main arena where Group and Best in Show competition will be held each day. The Nov. 14-15 shows will begin by 8 a.m. and continue through about 6 p.m.. More information is available at www.philadogshow.com.

Even through the bedlam of being 30-something, successful urban professionals, the two married couples still find time between the Reiki sessions, novel writing and organic food shopping to gather for a yearly dinner of remembering their glory days. As the smell of their freshly killed dinner fills the room, their culturally savvy world is threatened by the animal instincts that lurk inside every sophisticated scenester. A pack must have its leader, and only the strongest will survive. "Nachtrieb's bitingly hilarious black comedy spares neither savages nor saints" (LA Times). Armed with razor-sharp language, complex characters and a stunning sense of the theatrical, Peter Sinn Nachtrieb takes the world of Edward Albee to the next level.

Theatre Exile has gathered a gifted ensemble for our season opener, featuring Barrymore Award winner Amanda Schoonover, star of Exile's Mr. Marmalade and Killer Joe, as the sensitive software specialist Pam. Exile's own associate artistic director, Matt Pfeiffer, returns to the stage as the embittered doctor Tom. Exile is pleased to welcome Sarah Sanford, member of the award-winning Pig Iron ensemble and nominee for 2009 F. Otto Haas Award for Emerging Theatre Artist, as the voracious masseuse Wendy and Ross Beschler, last seen in End Days at People's Light and Theater Company, as the testosterone-driven artist Richard. Exile's co-artistic director Deborah Block directs this uproarious and surprising look at two couples teetering between virility and middle-aged panic.

Theatre Exile's Philadelphia premiere of Hunter Gatherers will run at the Adrienne Theatre, where another of Nachtrieb's caustic comedies will receive its Philadelphia premiere. Flashpoint Theatre Company will be producing Nachtrieb's Boom upstairs in the 2nd Stage at the Adrienne as Exile premieres Hunter Gatherers downstairs. It will be a rare opportunity for Philadelphia audiences to be fully submerged in the voice of one of America's rising star playwrights.
